Meet my 4 Corns

New member
hey everyone and thanks in advance at taking a glance at my corns!

They're all hatchlings from different places hopefully to be used for breeding in the future.

I'm no expert when it comes to corn morphs but below is what I think I have, any input by others will be appreciated on their morphs

Snow (Male)
Anery (Male)
Amel (Female)
not sure... (Female)

Suggestions on which you would pair together would be appreciated.

I'm very curious what morph the corn is I'm unsure about, it was labelled as a 'Possible Okeetee' but I think it looks more like a Miami, yet a friend said they think it could be a Diffused or Dilute? (I don't even know what a they are) so if you have any idea's please let me know.

Thank you for looking!!

Snow and Amel are spot on. Anery is probably right, might be a ghost? Looks kind of light but Aneries vary a lot too so I'm not sure

The one your unsure about looks like a classic / normal to me.

Lovely hatchlings! I started out with 2 pairs just like that: snow, amel, anery and a normal/classic. I purchased mine knowing that they all had matching het genes so that no matter who I bred to who, I would get a nice variety of hatchlings.

From the pic, I think your "not sure" is a Normal as well. Given that, you can definitely make Normals and Amels. Snow is a mix of Amel and Anery, so:

Snow x Amel = all visually Amels, but carrying the trait for Anery
Snow x Normal = all visually Normals, but carrying the traits for Amel and Anery

Anery x Amel = all visually Normals, but carrying the traits for Amel and Anery
Anery x Normal = all visually Normals, but carrying the trait for Anery

If some are carrying the traits (known as "hets") for other morphs, then you might get a wider variety. These days it would be unusual to find Normals, Anerys and Amels which *don't* have hets.

Personally I'd let your Snow have his way with both of your females, to see whether your Normal is carrying Amel and/or Anery hets, and whether your Amel is carrying the Anery het.

However do bear in mind that the morphs you have (and will be producing) are the most common and cheapest Corns. You need to check in advance whether you can sell all of the babes in your area. There's nothing like being stuck with 10-20+ little mouths to feed for months while you wait to find them homes. You need to be prepared to take a financial loss as they won't sell for much and you probably won't cover your costs in the first season.

They all need to (in my eyes) take three meals in a row to be considered suitable for selling as reliable feeders - this usually takes me a minimum of three weeks, *if* they decided to eat from the word go and then keep eating. Many hatchlings take a while to eat consistently so you should budget for a bit of waste food. Plus they all need to be housed separately and will need appropriate heating.

Thank you all for your input so far, and thank you for the info bitsy.

I'm not doing this to make a profit I'm doing this as a hobby, and all hobbies have their costs right?

I do plan on having 2 more females (I was told by a reptile shop owner to never keep more than 3 snakes in 1 enclosure)

And if it comes to it, to get more colourful babies I do have another viv spare if I wanted a 3rd trio with a different male. I realize the corns I have now are pretty common morphs so I'm thinking carefully before I purchase my next 2 females. I'll be keeping my eyes out on these forums for UK sellers to see what bargains I can grab!

Thanks all again for looking

Ah. Generally, advice on this board is that you should never keep more than one Corn per viv.

Males and females will mate without any special preparation and when forced together in captivity (in a way that they wouldn't be in the wild) and they can mate before the females are physically ready to form and lay eggs (around the age of three years). This can be fatal. I'd strongly suggest at least separating males from females as soon as possible. I've known males of 10 months old sire clutches of eggs.

Bear in mind that advice given by the shop may be tempered with a desire to sell you more snakes and therefore more food in the longer term.

Babies especially MUST be kept separately. Many of us have personally witnessed hatchling cannibalism, especially right after feeding. No downsides to keeping them apart except a small hit on your wallet, but we often say here "If you can afford another snake, you can afford another viv." And "Cohabitation isn't a problem until it's a problem." But I won't push that point home further, there are tons of posts here on the subject.

thank you again for the advice.

The males and females are already separated and wont be placed together until they are old enough for breeding. I shall review my housing situation for them before purchasing anymore :)

Good on ya! I think you're experiencing what most of us have been through (or are still going through). One is never enough! In my time, I've actually thrown away lounge furniture so that I can fit in another bank of vivs... Corns kinda do that to you :)
