Mica's pinkness! (DUW)

jlindp

Ophidiophile.
So, Mica shed last night, so I took a few shots. He's really lightening up and his pink is getting more noticeable, with a more salmon-y color filling in his laterals. The flash kind of washes it out. Also, is that a bit a yellow I see coming in on his neck? -squee-

I was talking with Don S. (who produced Mica) about how dang PINK he was and what could be the cause. Don said something about a "red coat" or "red masque" influence...? Don's a really big talker on the phone, so I didn't catch all of what he said. Either way, I'm very excited to see how my guy will look at a year old.

So, I tried pinky-scenting my lightbox to get him to stay still and he just attempted to eat the cardboard for a few minutes before giving up.

"Mm, wat's that I smellz?"

"O! Iz food! Iz gonna eat it now, kthx."

Thanks for looking!

Oh, he is beautiful. Gray with pink! ~Squee~ I'm really not into pink snakes (baby snows just look naked to me) but Mica is so lovely.

Ooooooo...!!!! Is that a Granite? I absolutely ADORE the pink hue! (need a drooling smiley with hearts flying around it's head)

Seeing this makes me really REALLY look forward to seeing the results of my and my friend's future granite project...to which we're planning to add Don's corals... ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing how he matures, as well. I, too, am not into pink, but the pink on the grey looks really good.

Thanks everyone! Both Don and I are super surprised at his colors. He's only "het" for Pied-Sided, so we're not sure where this pink coloration is coming from. I'll definitely keep y'all updated!

I took a few more since it was warm and sunny today, but my pictures still aren't showing just how PINK this guy really is. Like, he is bubblegum pink with salmon colors on his sides. And he's definitely getting yellow in and it goes half-way down his body. I'm so excited!

That's Awesome!! Such a neat colored snake :D

Thanks!

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

Thank you!

My granite is a pinkish color :shrugs: Look up Doc in the search bar

Yep, I've seen him. He's quite nice. But my snake is not your snake. He's only just past 7 months old and is already showing the colors of an adult, which is what I, personally, find so fascinating. The pink in the pictures isn't even close to how pink he is in person.

Maybe like the bloodred gene pied is an outcross? Like het caramel in amels, het blood in most morphs and het hypo in blood

I can see a nice hint of yellow in the most recent pictures. Wow. What a gorgeous little snake. Keep posting, as he is going to continue to change in coloration & I want to see it happen!

So pretty!!! I think I've read about something called "masque" but I don't remember. Was it something to do with bloodreds, and was Vinman talking about it, and are the reddest ones carrying the masque gene? Gotta find my morph guide...

VERY nice!
I'd test for Dilute if I was you... ;)

Thanks! He's from Don @ SMR and has no other hidden genes except being het for Pied. I can't remember if he said if he came from no-expression Pied Granites or Bloods.

Lovely! The redcoat does give a lovely wash of colour!

You should see him in person! His pink is almost neon bright and his sides are almost completely salmon colored.

Yes! He's got even more yellow in now! It's sunny outside, so I took him out to show one of my roommates, and you can really see it coming in. :dancer:

Thanks, Nanci! :} Yes, Don said that...Joe Pierce called it the "red coat" influence, but that he didn't like that name since it was akin to the whole British army thing or whatever, so he calls it "red masque" and he said it didn't have to do with Bloodred, but could be any morph. He said he'd never seen such pink on a Granite, let alone a juvenile, so this little snake is very interesting...

So briefly, masque is on a different locus from diffused. It may be sex-linked, having no effect on females. There is no known homo male yet. 2009 Morph Guide has two pages on it.

I suggested that because I have Dilute Anery Bloods some of which bare a striking resemblance to yours, I persoanlly would test it out as who knows what genes could have snuck in there without Don or whomever realising!

Very nice whatever!

Thanks for the info! I actually have that book around here somewhere... I guess I should read it! Would that mean that maybe my guy...is...het? Not really sure how the masque gene works, to be quite fair. :\

Ah, okay! I don't really plan on breeding, except maybe to breed him to my Pied-Sided Bloodred girl. But I do like the looks of Dilute Anery Motlies...so maybe I'll keep an eye open this breeding season. :}

And thank you, again!
