I have mice sitting in cold water defrosting and it is going on 12 hours. The water is cold and the color of the mice are normal. I was wondering if they are still good to use. Has anyone had any expirences like this?

Sorry for the double post. i was told to post it in the general forum after I put it in the feeder forum. Thank you for your advice everyone!

I dethawed them around 12:00pm and had to take my daughter to the hospital because she was sick. So, I am home now and its almost been 12 hours and I need to feed them tonight. I looked at the mice and they look fine but I am worried about salmonella. I have 72 mice that I defrosted and now I am going to have to throw them away it looks like. It sucks but I do not want to hurt my snakes, so its a no brainer if everyone says not to do it.

WOW...that hurts! That is an awful lot of mice to throw away. You poor soul. But yeah..throw them away I would. But what a darn shame.

I personally wouldn't use them. That sucks about the amount though.

I hope your daughter is ok...

How many snakes do you have. Sixty, seventy??

Its prolly to late, but I wouldn't have worried about it. Snakes will eat decaying food in the wild. A few hours out shouldn't be a problem.

Ack my previous answer was no help at all!

Amanda, like Mike said, the mice are "probably" ok...
but I know if you fed them off and it hurt one of your snakes, you and L would feel terrible. So, don't, just to be safe.

And I hope Leah feels better soon, poor kid.

Sorry, I replied on your other thread but I totally agree with Mike. If you were thawing that much meat in cold water, that would probably be even OK by human standards. With snakes they can take a lot worse. (Not that I'd make it a habit to push the boundaries, but I just don't think you're even near them here..)

Hope you used 'em, I know it's probably too late now.

I drink tequila. That's pretty home grown down on the farm. I think you have me confused with some of those East Coast types.
