Missing Kenyan Sand Boa

Alaya

Crazy Alaskan
I'm missing my normal het anery female! I don't know what to do, I've checked all the radiators, and drawers and everything. I keep her in a 6 qt rubbermaid container. The lid was fully snapped on, so I don't know how she got out. My two other sand boas have heavy books on top for now. My plan was to build a rack this December for the sand boas.

I last saw her when I fed her Tuesday night. I was sick, and my boyfriend was already in bed, so I just weighed, recorded, fed, and returned to the habitat in a mostly dark room. I am certain I put everyone back in as they should be. I didn't check them Wednesday as they had just fed and I was sick. I went to go and take everyone out to handle tonight, and she's gone! I had been thinking for awhile that maybe I should put a big book science text book on top of her. Now I really regret not doing it.

She was 16 grams Tuesday. I've checked drawers, warm places, even went to the basement and checked around where the pipes come out to the heater. I talked to the people living downstairs, and if they see her they will let me know. I don't know what else to do.

Its cold outside, next week will be far below zero (tuesday has an high of -15 forcasted) so I really don't think she will go outside. My hope is that she shows up somewhere in the basement. I'm checking all the radiatiors with a flashlight. There is a puppy downstairs and two dogs and two cats up here so I really hope that none of the animals do anything to her.

I'm really scared and I feel really dumb. My pets are really special to me, I've never lost one before.

I still haven't found her. I've been searching the radiators and the small room with the boiler. I'm convinced she crawled into a hole in the wall where all the pipes go. I'm hoping she comes out in the boiler room. From what I read Sand Boas tend to go strait down, and that room is warm. I'm really scared I won't find her. I feel horrific.

Ironically, I had just bought my corn snake a new tank with the locking sliding lid because I was afraid of him escaping.

I feel horrible.

Well, she's probably still holed up digesting. Have you set painters tape traps?

Are you sure you didn't put her in with someone else by accident?

I haven't set up painters tape traps yet. I have a really clean house, there simply aren't that many places for her to BE other than down the one hole into the wall. I'm going to go and vacuum the radiators, though the only vacuum we have is this tiny handheld thing that doesn't do much, and try to stick some masking tape under them (don't have painters tape).

I have gone through all of the aspen in my sand boa's tubs by filtering it through my fingers. She's tiny, but not that tiny. I'll check my corn snake tank today, but he was done eating long before the sand boas, so I locked up his cage before I put them away.

My pets (two cats are two dogs) are well trained to completely ignore and not even look at anything smaller than them, so they haven't alerted me to anything. I'm worried if she ends up in the unit next to or below us (we live in a triplex, two on top, one below) as they both have puppies (one is 1 year, the other 3-4 months) and neither are well trained. I'm really scared they will do something to her. I've let the owners know, and they are keeping an eye out.

Time to go and clean the corn's new tank so I can switch him over and go through his old one with a fine tooth comb.

Have you looked under all your furniture? I would set traps along all the walls. If she passes by, it will catch her. Also look very closely around where her viv is- sometimes they don't go very far at all.

I found her! I feel so much better, she was really stressing me out. My pets mean a lot to me. I haven't had her long, but I felt horrible.

I deep cleaned EVERYTHING in the room, she was behind the last bookcase I hauled out from the wall. Not happy to see me at all, but that is not surprising. She is the least friendly of my sand boas, she doesn't like to be held much at all. She felt cold, and looks like she might be going blue, but other than that seems no worse for wear. I put her back in her container with fresh water and a big, heavy biology textbook on top. Tomorrow is my normal feeding day, but if she is going blue I'll skip her this time around. Don't want a regurge from the extra stress and shedding!

Lesson learned.

Excellent! What happens to me (usually with lizards) is I move every single heavy thing, and then find them hiding in plain sight!
