Missing outside

My son took his corn snake outside in the grass. The snake went under the grass, my son assumed he would come back up. He didn't. I've searched the yard for hours. If he's still hiding in there, are there any tricks to get him to the surface? Please help!

most of the tricks that we use for corns might not work here. people have had success with painter's tape traps, but I'd worry that a trapped snake outside could be found by a predator. You could try some kind of bottle trap to convince the snake to climb inside of a bottle with a food item if it is still in the area but you'd need to do some additional research on that.

Snakes can get rowdy outside and we forget how quick they are. They are very well able to climb and slip into places that we cannot reach. I hope that you find it soon.

Thank you, it's been 2 nights now and I left his tank with heat and food on its side in the yard where we lost him and nothing, I think he's gone for good.

You could print a picture with your phone number and give it to all the neighbours. Many times on this board people's lost snakes have turned up in neighbours' yards, even months later. Good luck!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your snake is probably gone.. He will become part of the food chain, weather that is to be eaten or to find prey and eat. The chances of you finding him though.. are VERY slim.

I suppose you could try to lay a mouse out for it, but that could attract ALL KINDS of wildlife that you probably don't want hanging out in your yard.

Once I had a Milk Snake that escaped in my house. Months later (at least) I was moving and the movers found him OUTSIDE! I live in Oregon.. not exactly indigenous Milk Snake weather. He'd been using the hot tub as a heat source.

Unfortunately the movers picked him up, placed him down somewhere, and by the time they'd alerted me.. the snake was long gone.

I figured as much, however I've heard so many stories of them popping up weeks even months later. The weather is awesome right now. Been in the 80's day and 50's night. Thank you for the input. I'll keep my fingers crossed

I wanted to say thank you to all that gave advice and let you know..... HE'S BACK! Went out the front door and he was just laying there in the planter. Seems healthy and full of energy. I'm a happy momma!

A friend of mine had a snake escape and he thought the snake was long gone. EIGHT months later, after having gone through winter, my friends neighbor found the snake in a wood pile.
Do not give up! While sometimes they are long lost, sometimes they do show up!

I had a hatchling escape mid November, and I thought she was long gone. I found her outside, next to my back porch near the end of January, alive!. She had lost a couple grams, but otherwise ok. She has picked back up in eating, and is doing fine.

Don't give up!

I'm glad you found him!

I'm glad to hear that you found him! It must have been a rough couple of days. If you decide to bring him outside again, make sure that you always have a hand on him and can see what he's getting into.
