I need some professional advice to put me at ease, here. This was my course of action:
While going about one of my corn snake's monthly habitat cleaning and substrate replacement, I noticed little grey/tan bugs on the newspaper I keep underneath. They were of course, hanging around some missed 'poo-bits' that I must have not seen while spot cleaning.
Naturally, quickly, I whip into research mode and I'm 85% certain they are mites by descriptions.
Sadly, I noticed these bugs after I had already handled her to place her in an alternate tank while I cleaned. So I washed my hands with soap and hot water before I took action on the infested tank.
All I have currently, is Wipe Out 1 for cleaning enclosures. I took the infested tank outside and began spraying directly on the mites that I could see. This seemed to kill them (as soon as I sprayed they stopped moving, seemed to really hate it), and I continued to spray all the sides of the tank and take out the newspaper from the bottom of the tank, spraying the bottom glass.
I let this sit for 5 minutes. I wiped it down with paper towels, let it sit for a few more and then aggressively sprayed with a hose for rinsing. Tank air dried.
I was worried for my corn, and I had read in several places that if you do not see mites on the snake there is still a chance of infestation. I set up a warm water bath, and placed the snake in it, not for too long, about 3 or so minutes. According to some sources, this was a good precautionary measure.
I took her out, and placed her in the clean fresh tank on top of some paper towels, and gave her a clean water dish. I am afraid of putting her usual substrate in with all of it's nooks and crannies, because I want to be able to see the mites if they come back or if they are on her.
Thankfully, she pooed in the alternate tank while I was cleaning her original one... and cleaned that one immediately after I had her settled.
She seems shiny and clean... but I'm just scared for her. I am pretty sure that I have never had mites before.
(all this while washing my hands obsessively)
I just ordered a bottle of Foster & Smith reptile relief.

Have I done the right thing? Is there anything else I should do besides watch her closely?
