recently iv noticed small bugs in my viv. they are small black things, but they are never on my snake, and i most often see them on the cardboard tubes i have for my snake to hide in. iv read posts on this forum about wood mites, and it sounds like them...but they arent white, which has kinda thrown me off abit. i use reptibark substrate.

Do you freeze or bake the repti-bark before you put it in the viv? Thats the best way to kill any creepy crawlies in the bag. Im not sure about snake mites.. will need others input on those, but from what I understand, you should see those on the shed or on the snake.

nope i havnt tried any of that, i guess i kinda assumed that since its made for reptiles, it will already of been treated. its not actually reptibark, its called Euro Rep Rain Forest Advanced Vivarium substrate. im sure its a pretty similar substrate tho.

I'd throw it in the freezer or oven just to be safe... I've seen buggies in every bark substrate I've gotten (every brand, not every bag).
