More food already?

Hey guys, I feed my cornsake today and maybe it was because it had been 7 days instead of my usual 5days, but he seemed EXTRA hungry. I feed him a fuzzy (he's been eating fuzzies for about 5 feedings now) and he was very active and looking around his eating container. I decided to heat up some pinkies, and fed two to him. (They are small pinkies, sooo tiny, I cant believe how much he's grown!)

Anyways, Im curious, should I be moving to larger mice already? I just barely got this back of 50 fuzzies! And they basically ended up costing me $1 each, because I didnt want a back of other mice in my freezer sitting around, so I only bought the 50, and shipping killed me!!! I dont have a local mouse supplier :(

What should I do? Is it ok to feed him pinkies after a fuzzy if he seems hungry? I know it would be more preferable to have a larger meal, but it seems to be impossible for me to slowly increase mouse size without going broke and having a million extra mice in my freezer.

Thanks. Oh, btw, the fuzzies leave a decent lump, although the fuzzies arent much wider in diameter than the largerst portion of his body. So the fuzzies arent overly small for him.

Going from your size of lump description, I'd say he's fine on the current size. If you look at him 12 hours or so after a feed and there's no distinguishable lump at all, then you could move him up to 2 fuzzies per feed. Perhaps you could feed him one big fuzzy for 1 feed and then 2 smaller fuzzies for the next and then back to 1 fuzzy again just to see how he handles the increased food bulk. That's pretty much what I do with mine when I'm moving them up a size, I see-saw them back and forwards for a few feeds just in case the 2 item feed was alittle stressful, then the next is a nice easy single item feed. After a few cycles of this routine, he should be fine to move up to 2 fuzzies all the time until you almost exhaust your supply and then you could see-saw with 2 fuzzies/one hopper.

Good luck with your snakie!

Well, 10hrs after feeding there isnt much of a lump... I mean, he gets a bit larger, but in all honesty his body might just get bigger right there! I guess for the next feeding I will just try 2 fuzzies, maybe find a few smaller of the fuzzies I have. Im super happy he's getting big fast, just wish I had a local rodent supplier so I could more easily get food for him.

Usually when mine are out searching for more food within a day of feeding, I figure it's time to increase the food size. Usually I feed two of the original food size for 3 or 4 feedings before going up one size. If you're feeding one fuzzy, feed two for at least another 3 or 4 feedings. Once mine are on fuzzies they are fed once a week. Then you can go to hoppers. You can always save the fuzzies for your next snake :)
