Motley or not a Motley?

wildlifephotographer

Corn snakes rule!
Okay, this is what my question is... I have 19 babies that came from my female Libra who is a normal motley and my male Kasper who is a Silver queen ghost.

I got 2 male Anery Motley babies
1 male normal motley baby
5 female Normal Motley babies

And the rest I have no clue if they are just plain anery babies and normal babies or if they are motley because some of them have half white bellies/some checkers on them with more of a normal type pattern on back. And 2-4 of them have full checkered bellies and normal patterns.

Do Motley corns have checkers at all on their bellies? I am going to take pics and upload them in a bit but was just wondering.

Thanks!

Can you post pictures? (whoops, just saw what you wrote about taking pics).

*I* have never seen a motley with belly checkers. However.. there is a thread about on this site with some photos of some weirdo babies that hatched out with checkers, and the perfect motley pattern.

I am of the theory (of which I read somewhere and I give credit to whoever said it first) that the plain belly and the circular patterning on the dorsal side are just two traits that hitchhike with each other. I think that once in a while those genes do get split apart. It makes sense to me with my limited genetic knowledge on hitchhiking genes.

Some pics

Here is one that I am unsure of. Is this an anery or anery motley?

I wouldn't call those motleys, I think those are normal patterns. Just don't have a lot of checkers.

One more out of a few more that I am unsure of. This is the last one that I will post pics of. This is another anery or anery motley? Has some checkers but mostly white belly.

Okay, thanks. I tagged them as anery and normal babies but wanted to double check. Also, wanted to find out how much anery and normal motley babies usually sell for? Thanks for all the replies!

I've had a few normals het motley or possible het motley with belly patterns like that, but they were also het or possible het Sunkissed which might be a factor concerning the lack of belly checks. I know Sunkissed was not listed as being in your parent snakes, but if one is an unknown het Sunkissed and has passed that gene to the offspring, it might be what is causing your confusion. Something you might consider in future breeding trials, and I would test the silver queen ghost first as I know Rich Zuchowski started that line and he did breed Sunkissed into it as I own a Sunkissed silver queen.

I bought my normal motley for five dollars.. So personally, I wouldn't buy a motley for that much, especially without hets. If they had interesting hets I'd pay more. Now of course this is my opinion, and if people are willing to pay $40 for a normal motley.. then go for it!
