mouse sacrifice

Hi
I killed a mouse for first time the other day,
after lots of research i decide to put a blunt metal blade between shoulders and head and pulled tail quick and hard.
Question is:after i did the deed for up to about 10 seconds the mouse twitched and crossed its back legs,
i want to be sure this is the correct reaction, and the mouse died quick as it should from this method.?????
Its not my method of choice but i live in the netherlands(Holland) and dry ice is very expensive and the other methods are not available..but hey my guy has gotta eat....
thanks

Another way to make a CO2 chamber without dry ice. Try using baking soda and viniger I have a weird set up. 2 containers (1 for holding the mice/rats, and 1 for holding the viniger and bakingsoda), some aquarium tubing. Its not hard to set up a co2 chamber. I know some folks in here have a link somewhere.

This reaction sounds normal to me. It seems to take the brain a few seconds to die. The twitches are just part of that.

you did good.

this method does work, and yes, can and does have twitching that goes on. Most people freak about that, but how is this different than our snakes grabbing a mouse, and squeezing? And mouse twitches, gasps, and struggles in obvious wide eyed terror for not a long length of time, but still, can take time? So I guess I don't feel bad when I use the cervical dislocation method that I do. You did good.

Thanks for the replies all,
I feel much better now,was feeling a bit nasty on the little mouse and wanted to be sure it didnt suffer too much..
ill do some more research and maybe try the viniger and baking soda..it might be a bit easier on me :)
once again thanks
