musking and how to get rid of smell

Chromatic Corns

Just one more
So my 2011 lavender male is a musker. He hates being handled and rattles his tail followed by that lovely aroma. I'm hoping he'll stop eventually but if you have tips I'd love to hear them. Also the best suggestion for removing that stench from hands. No matter what soap I use I can still smell it.:puke01:

Yeah, it's really stinky stuff. I've never been "musked" by a corn
but have been done in by others like Bulls, Gophers, Kings.
Try Fabuloso if I got the spelling correct, it has a pleasant scent
and seems to work well and many stores seem to sell it.

Good luck!

Every lavender morph I've had has been like that. But I don't think the musk smells in a bad way.. not like garter snakes. o.0 I've been able to get the scent off with regular hand soap, when it comes to corns. But if you're more sensitive to the smell then I guess something stronger will be needed. My soap is also pomegranate scented so maybe that helps.

You'll get used to the smell eventually haha comparatively cornsnakes dont have a very strong musk..some species will just about knock you out with it..most of the time I would rather be bitten than musked for sure. I know washing with baking soda or soaking in vinegar will get musk out of clothes, maybe try that on your hands?

Well, considering that tomato juice gets rid of skunk smells, you might try that. Also, lemon juice is a great thing to rid smells from your hands.

It's not as bad as the rat snake at school but my nose is super sensitive. Vinegar with peppermint essential oil seemed to do the trick :)

My hypo-lav female doesn't musk but is also very skittish and doesn't enjoy people much. Maybe it is a
lavender trait...

Oh that's not good. I just bought a hypo lavender female hatchling. I thought the sun kissed types did not like to be held as much.

I wonder how one of those industrial strength hand soaps like Go-Jo might do. Mine's not a musker (so far), so hopefully I'll never need to try the experiment. I've also seen metal bars sold by kitchen stores that are supposed to be effective at removing food smells from hands - not sure if they work at all, much less on snake musk, but might be worht a shot in conjunction with soaps.

Straight distilled white vinegar flavored with peppermint essential oil works. :) he did good two more handles nonissue and then he struck at me last week. Temp are good, he's just got an attitude.

I have one female who is a musker too. Everything in her tub is spot in, as she's in a rack system with 16 other corns who are always on their best behavior.

This is what I use, it's homemade hand scrub I usually use before painting my nails but I noticed it gets the musk smell right out.

Get a little sealable container. Put in a big spoonful of white sugar, cover the sugar in olive oil, and then use one single drop of tea tree oil. ONLY ONE DROP I'm telling you or else it will dry out your hands. Spoon a bit of the sugar/oil into your hand, scrub it around for a minute or so, rinse, and then maybe wash to get the olive oil residue off.

Your hands will feel smoother than a babies bottom and hopefully they won't stink!
