Musking

Well one of my snakes musked me for the first time today, at least I think that is what it was. Is it just me or does it smell like onions, LOL. I made it mad by disturbing it to feed it, stupid me LOL.

Me too.

I had that happen to me too. Almost right after I bought her, she shed. Well the day before she shed I attempted to feed her a half pinkie. Well she didn't like that so she started to race around the feeding pen. My mom noticed this pepper like smell.... Then I realized that it was coming from her. So I took out the mouse, and put her back into her cage.

Why dose musking usually happen when you try to feed the snake?

Thanks, Butters

I've never been musked by a captive snake, but when I was younger I'd catch and get musked by garters and black rats and such.

My adult male western hognose will musk the first few times handled after coming out of brumation each year. He will clear 1/2 of the house out!

Adult LTC corn- never musks
Cali King 2006- musks if very startled
Eastern WC Hoggy- musks when being assisted-fed
Tri-Color Hoggy- never musks
Nelson's Milk- musks every single time I handle her, even for a few seconds, and often multiple times! But it doesn't smell- so...

My milk snake musks all the time. It's almost a reflex. I have to pick him up in a ball and then he's ok. If I pick him up all squirmy, then the fluids fly!

I have never been musked by a corn or king snake, though.

Did it look like this?? (Inez wanted to provide an example!)
