my baby corn goes on top side corners on top of his box

my baby corn seems to sleep insides of top of box in corners why does he do that.

ive only had him a week when it best time to feed him

Does he have a hide box inside his cage?

I wouldn't worry too much about it though, I've seen my corns curl up on the top of their enclosures many times. Mostly they are looking for a way out of their cage or for a place to hide. If you don't have a small hide for him I'd use a small box (like a bandaid box or the card board tube from a roll of TP).

Sounds like he just might be a tad bit nervous or maybe he just likes high places. Like I said, I wouldn't worry too much, just be careful when opening his cage.

I just noticed your question about feeding too... (am 1/2 blonde and 1/2 blind here! lol)

It should be okay to offer him a small meal now, he's had a week to settle in. Just give him a bit of privacy and after he's eaten let him be for at least a day or two - to give him time to digest.

Will you be feeding him live or frozen thaw?

I suspect the reason he's staying at the top of the viv is that he's too warm and trying to find somewhere off the heat to settle.

Get a thermostat, sort your temperatures out, and then feed him.

sometimes he stays down aswell

just few times he been up

i have polythere underneath is heat mat should i take it off

It wouldn't be a bad idea to check the temp inside the enclosure, you want a warm side and a cool side so that the little critter can thermoregulate as needed.

The heater should be fine as long as it doesn't cover more then about 1/3 of the bottom of the cage/tank and it has an insulating layer between the bottom of the cage and the critter - this will prevent the little guy from getting burns on his belly from sitting so close to the heater.

Janew is correct in that it's best to have the temps sorted out before feeding, it will make the snake's first meal much less stressful.

If you don't already have it, I'd reccommend getting Kathy Love's Corn Snake Manual - it is a very helpful book.

Good luck with your little critter and we'd love to see some pictures down the line.
