River Valley Reptiles
As some of you may have read, I had two losses in my collection over the holidays. I've been pretty depressed about it, but this guy has definitely put a bright spot in my day.
I had found him for sale in North Carolina. I was very interested in purchasing him, as I have been fascinated with candoia for some time now, but after my last snake shipment did not go smoothly I decided that I want to avoid shipping or receiving snakes in colder weather, despite heat packs or anything else. As luck would have it, the seller lives very close to where my boyfriend traveled to visit his family. I did not go with him, because I had to work and wanted to spend Christmas with my own family this year. I talked to him about picking up the snake for me. The seller agreed to it, but the timing meant he had to keep the snake for about a week before coming back home. My boyfriend supports my snakes, but he is NOT a snake person by any means. I didn't want to ask something of him that was unreasonable, so I got him in contact with the seller, gave him a sterilite setup and a UTH in case he did get it, and left it up to him with no pressure or expectations.
As it turns out, he did pick him up for me! They both came home Monday evening. I gave the snake a quick lookover and then let him be because he was a bit stressed. Tonight I took him out to give him a more thorough examination - he was so calm that I snapped some pictures too! Sorry for the bad quality - it is cold and rainy outside so I had to stay indoors. But here he is! My new Solomon Island tree Boa (Candoia bibroni australis)! Name to be determined (I am open to suggestions).
Checking out the camera:
I love his eyes!
Man, do these guys have a really tight grip or what?
I tried a few without flash, this was the best I got. Not in focus but you can get a more accurate idea of what is color is at the moment. He's a lot brighter now than he was the night he came in.
