You should wait two days after feeding before handling.

Looks either like sand or crushed walnut shell to me.

nice looking snake, he looks pretty big how old is he?

I never seen crushed walnuts shells, but I don't see any sharp edges on the substrate, looks to me like small round pepbles, strange the color of substrate turns minty on close-up shots like you see with the foam stuff in packageing.

What the heck is it????????

Its like bits of cork, not too sure, i didnt read the pack, its very light, like popcorn almost...

hes a month old now

Could it be the Carefresh stuff? It's grey so possibly... :shrugs:
