My fake rattler!

Hissssssss
I just had an awesome experience with Lucifer! I was feeding him a fuzzy. Typically he is flat in the viv when I feed him, but tonight he was semi-wrapped on a branch and his tail was up higher and his head was on the floor of the viv. I was lowering the F/T fuzzy to him with tongs, and he started to shake his tail like a rattler! It freaked me out at first cuz I didn't know where the sound was coming from, then I realized it was his tail vibrating against the fake vine and leaves that I have running over the top of his branch. I have heard that corns will sometimes do this, and it was really cool to witness it. He hit that fuzzy and devoured it! I feed him small fuzzies every 6days, but the way he has hit and devored the last two times he has eaten, I think its time to move up to a regular fuzzy. Plus I'm not seeing much of a visible lump in his belly. He's a little piggy.

I feed my corns in a giant ice cream container. One evening when I was feeding my girl, Naomi, I heard a strange buzzing sound. I lifted the lid and her tail was vibrating like mad. Glad she isn't the only oddity...lol.

Our little hatchling Danzing is a fire cracker, he rattles his tail all the time. It cracks me up! I'm like little guy you only weigh 10 grams....no one is afraid of you!

Many corns do this, although with age (ie. getting comfortable with handling) they tend to do it less and less, most of my adult snakes will only do this after having laid eggs.
This is referred to as protective mimicry.

My Male snake will do this as well. I tend to feed him in a plastic storage bin and for some reason he doesn't like me taking him out until hes ready, say ump some hours later. Hey, if he wants to be in a empty box all day, fine with me, just means hes getting fed last, and gets whatever his old lady doesn't want.

both of my females do this when they are being fed. the male could not care less lol. none of my babies do it.. and memo.. my lil almost-two-year-old... couldnt hurt a fly.. he still gingerly nibbles on the mouse while ur holding it..

Gotta love the tail rattling. Last night we fed our snakes and Brogan for the first time was very ornery from the getgo. He was having a fit from the time he was put in his feeding area till the time he was put back in his tank. He was buzzing us with his tail the whole time...lol
I've never seen him do that before, but thought it was just too cool...lol

Artemis and Striker have done it in the past..but they definitely seemed to have decreased the times they do it with handling...But it was kind of cute :0)
