My female corns: bloodred/diffused Nephthys & ghos Apophis

Nymphoma

Crazy cat lady
So I'd like to show off my little beauties, both are clutched in july 2011.

First came Nephthys, she was sold to me as bloodred, but few breeders around here are telling me that she is "just" diffused 'cause she is not red enough. Really nice snake, when came to me she was a bit nervous but now good to handle, quite a hideous one in her terrarium and won't show herself much. She's a bit under 60cm long, and weights about 30g. And here she is, tell me what you think of her colour:

Smaller one is a ghost named Apophis, she is a bit under 50cm long, and weights about 17g. Also very nice snake and good to handle, much more curious and lively than the other one. When I go to the living room where terrarium's are, she always pokes her head out like asking "so what'll we do now?". And here she is, really beautiful little one (she just ate):

Next corn snake will be a tessera male, I'd like to get either hypo or anery, or both. And reverse okeetee high white would be nice too, and a red coat and..... :bird:

Couple of new pics, from Easter. Girls got to meet the Easter Bunny!

Nephthys is starting to look like a snake, she's still not very big though, about 10 months now and size about 66cm/40g. I just don't like much of how her colour goes, it's going more brown and orange than red. She had really good bloodred signs when I bought her (gray head and bg colour, deep red saddles etc), so don't know wtf happened. She almost looks like a normal coloured corn. :( But she is still wonderful snake, very curious, always behaves nicely and always eats. This is from last week:

Apophis grows very very slowly, but, at least she grows. She's about 10cm/10g behind Nephthys in size, and they're same age. She's now in shed, waiting anxious to see how her colour goes - she's been looking a bit pinkish lately. (So maybe there is that red which is missing from our bloodred, LOL. )

bloodred or diffused wouldn't have actual pattern on the sides, or checkers on the belly. If you have checkers on the belly along with those side patterns, i'd say you definitely do NOT have a bloodred or a diffused. It's a lovely normal. http://iansvivarium.com/morphs/species/elaphe_guttata/normal/?sid=

the head isn't nearly grey enough I think to be bloodred as well. http://iansvivarium.com/morphs/species/elaphe_guttata/diffused/?sid= some of the user photos don't look right to me on there though.

No, she doesn't have any checkers on her belly. It's white, now a hint of red "leaking" into it. She doesn't have totally gray head anymore, she's changing her colour in each and every shed, and she's getting a bit colour to her head too. I'd just like to know, why she's changing into more orange and brownish now, when she used to be really red...

This is how she looked like something like a couple of weeks after I got her:

colours of all corn snakes change as they get older, that's why you'll see really bright or deep red normals that change and become orangey as they get older.

If there's no belly checkers, then maybe it's just a milder diffused that will be orangey as a final colour and not a really vibrant red.
