My first ever clutch!!

So Many Morphs...
Parents are:
Gaea - Amel Motley Hets Unknown ( she is my girl who had surgery for egg binding with sluggs last year even though she had not been bred).

Zeus - Classic het Hypo, Lav, Stripe ph Amel, which is why I paired him with Gaea so that I could hopefully prove out his possible Amel!

I took pics with mom guarding her precious eggs but something messed up with the camera so All I have are these two pics of the eggs in the lay box and then in the incubating box. In spite of egg binding and surgery last year she gave me 10, great looking eggs, all plump, 2 inches long and fairly thick around!! I am so proud of her. She has had a bath to get the vermiculite and perilite off of her and is now in a box with a toasty mouse! One week after mating she ate only half what she usually eats and then stopped completely, so it has been a long time since she ate (April 14, 2011). Eggs are so white they are like a sheet of paper although the lighting my snake room does not show it.

The incubating temp has been 80-81.9 in the incubating tub but the gauge shows different because when I opened it some heat escaped.

Now the count down starts.

Congrats! The waiting sucks BTW, I've tried my best to ignore them incubating except to open and mist the moss, but now were on day 52 and I'm getting antsy... should only be another week or so.

@ Nanci... it was a very hard decision. I had asked the vet to fix her when they opened her up last year because I suspected she would continue to produce slugs with out being bred like she had last year and a lot of reading suggests there may be a correlation between sluggs and egg binding.

The vet told me that they felt it was because two sluggs had hardened that she was unable to pass them and they got stuck in her pelvis and if they had been viable eggs they would have been softer and she "likely" would not have become egg bound and that was why they would not fix her. They said if it happened again they would then fix her.

She went through so much the last time. I did not want to take the chance and was hoping that if there was a chance fertile eggs would pass better then that was what I would try this year. I have worried and struggled with what I decided this whole time and to see those beautiful eggs and a repetitively relaxed momma who was willing to eat, made me so happy!!

Really I do not know what I will do in the future she is not essential to breeding plans, originally I bought her because I love her look. But it will break my heart if I loose her to egg binding of slugs because she insists on producing them every year.

Well, you're lucky to have a vet that is such a skilled surgeon that he can make your snake virtually good as new! I think if it was me and I didn't want to breed her next season I'd make sure she was getting plenty of exercise so she would be in good shape to lay and then watch her like a hawk. I, too, have heard that slugs are more likely to get stuck [than fertile eggs], but they are undoubtedly much more likely to not get stuck at all.

Ok so you figure just do as I usually do with her and not over feed, keep her very active and then do not breed her and keep a close eye on her and see if she does ok. You have heard what I have heard but feel slugs should be less likely to get stuck if the snake is in good shape (if I understand correctly)? Are slugs generally smaller than fertile eggs? If so is that what you are thinking?

wow, that is a beautiful momma!

and a hard choice you had to make, indeed.

my girl was egg-bound with slugs too. i think they are definitely harder for them to pass! wishing you luck with those beautiful eggies!

Only 11 days into the wait and my 12 yr old keeps harassing me. "When are they going to hatch? When are we going to have babies?" Like it is not hard enough to wait with out his constant prodding!! Grr.:headbang:

I just went down and candled them. They are plumper than when laid. They also have beautiful bright red veins running through them and nice air bubbles. So far so good.
