My First snake...

Hi,

My name is Oliver and I live in Germany and in about 5 weeks after i get back from vacation, i'll be getting my charcoal from a local breeder. Pic

Until then I'm busy setting everything up and can't wait to finally pic him up. :)

The more I think about the more i've been thinking about picking up a mate for the little guy. Anybody have any suggestions on what type would make intersting offspring one day....??

Welcome to the site!!!!!!!!
There are a lot of great people here. Everybody is always willing to help

Welcome! I too am getting my first snake very soon. Similar to your charcoal- but she is an anerythristic, very solid black and silver markings. Welcome to the group!

Welcome to the forum Oliver!

Your future little one is so so very cute!!

Regarding a mate for your charcoal, I personally am not that great on morphs but the best thing to do is the find out if he has any hets and which ones they are. Once you know these and have put the information in this thread, you might get some more accurate answers as the hets are important in determining the outcome ;)

If you want to read some threads with some general information and some specific, here is a post with a lot of links which are very useful.

Good luck with your new snake!

Hello. Welcome. :wavey:

I will suggest you cruise around the photo gallery and get a sense for which morphs you like, and start getting a little familiar with cornsnake genetics. Then you'll know in which directions you might want to go in 3 years when your female snake (if you get one) is ready to breed.

First of all thanks for the warm welcome!

@ jenkva: The Hets are Amelanistic + Blood Red. The daddy is a pewter and the mama is a Blizzard.

No immediate plans for breeding but although I don't have my first one yet, I would like another one with a little more colour. I like the Miami phase and the okeetees but there are so many beautiful ones out there :shrugs:

I would suggest that you have a play around with the Generic Gentic Wizard from http://www.cornsnakes.nl/GenericGenWiz/MPGW.htm
It will give you some idea on what you could get with which other snake depending on their hets.
Good luck with that and don't forget to let us know what morph you will go for as a mate!

I agree, it is a very good website :D

What kind of morph is that on the homepage..............that is pretty. Looks like an anery but with red instead of black. :shrugs:

Well, if I decide to get two and if I have only one tank (just getting started) then it would have to get two of the same sex to avoid any premature pregnance (sorry but i lack a better word).

Would it be better to get two males or females??

I've been around the Kornatterlexicon but posting here in english is easier for me.

Its really not a good idea to keep more than one to an enclosure, especially if they're young. Do a search on "cohabitation" on this forum and you'll find loads of information.

You might be better getting a female now, then looking for a male later when you've had time to get used to your first one, and to set up another vivarium. You'll have a better idea of what you want to get out of future breeding too.
