My girl died :(

I wasn't sure where to put this... Just needed to talk about it, I guess :(

I checked on my baby girl today and she was dead. Just sitting out in the middle of her Viv, curled up... it's like she died asleep...

I'm not sure why. I honestly think she was sick when I got her from the guy on kijiji.

I'm just so sad. She was my first and I feel like I failed her. She did a regurge at the beginning of Feb and I had been trying to get her to eat again but she kept refusing...

I already know I want another snake. Maybe I need a more established one. An adult... Idk.

My heart hurts.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's hard to lose them, even if you haven't had them long.

Give yourself time to recover a little and then, yes, maybe look for a more established snake. A juvenile or sub-adult if you don't want to go straight to adult.

I agree with Sarah, give yourself a little time to grieve. It is never easy to lose a pet. What makes you think she was sick, and how did she handle the regurge treatment? That might clear things up for you to know for your new kiddo.

I would look for a well-established breeder, and you may even want to go with a yearling. They are already good eaters, are obviously healthy as you get to pick one out and see what you are getting.

So sorry for your loss :(

My very first corn went through the same thing. She regurged then I could not get her to eat at all. Not long after that she passed away. Some just don't make it.

Once I felt better I got another corn snake from a better source. Right away it was obvious he was in better healthy. He was a bit bigger than my first and he ended up doing really well for me.

Keep your chin up. It tends to work out.

Well, I didn't know they should already be established eaters and I believe he was feeding live. Before he left my house he said to try and get live mice if possible. I got her to eat f/t twice and then she regurged... I went with that regurge plan someone here suggested and fed her the head of a 2g pink after a while. She refused. I waited another week and tried another head and she refused. Less than a week later she died... Sigh.

Thank you everyone. I'm still really sad. She was such a good snake. Very tame, loved to be held. I'm afraid I won't get such a nice snake next time...

I'm gonna wait a bit and see what I can find. One of the only breeders I've found in Canada is on the other side and with the weather there's no shipping anytime soon.

I am sorry to hear about your snake. I am sure she was awesome. It seems like you cared a lot and I bet any snake you get in the future will also be a great snake. Good luck.

I am sorry to hear about ur snake. I have been having a hard time finding a snake breeder in canada especially in ontario good luck

I'm in Ontario, too. I was looking like crazy today and found some breeders. Waiting to hear back from them regarding their snakes/shipping!

Good luck to you, I hope you find a good healthy snake. I lost my baby a while back and I had purchased her from a big name pet store, first mistake I'm figuring out. I believe she was sick when I got her as well, but I had never owned a snake and didn't know what to look for.
She never gained weight, just lost, and she did eat normally, but she stunk, so I took her to the vet and had a fecal done and was given meds for bacteria. She ate once or twice after the meds were gone and then refused a couple times and then I just found her dead one day, so sad.
I have one other one that I got the same time but from a school teacher who bred them himself, she's doing quite well and is up to 35g. Nagini who died was bigger by 1g when I got them but never gained.
I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks so much! I've learned a lot since I first got Auggie and understand going to a reputable breeder is best now. I will be doing that!

I'm sorry you lost your snake. It's just so sad.

Tons of breeders in Canada, there's a few on this forum, and if you go to Reptiles Canada, you can find a bunch more.

I am really sorry to hear this, I can't imagine how hard it was to find her that way.
With my babies, that's always been a fear in the back of my mind.
I'm sure your baby was wonderful and when you decide you're ready, you're next one will be amazing, too.

I'm fairly new to snake owning, I've learned A LOT and still have a long way to go- But a reputable breeder is totally the way to go- The extra cost for shipping more than pays off in the long run, with a healthy, beautiful, well-established snake for a long, long time.
My first came from a co worker and was out of his first clutch- He and his wife love snakes so they made sure he ate well and was very healthy.
My other little guy came from a breeder on here and is just a fantastic snake all around.
You won't regret going with a fabulous breeder- they'll keep in touch with you and help you every step of the way, answering questions and everything.

I hope you find comfort, and that you'll be able to give your love to another deserving snake =)

Sorry for your loss! Take the time to grieve.
This might also be a good time to clean out the cage & disinfect everything. Get back to basics and go over your care and feeding. I have found this process really helped me with other endeavors in life.
Everything I have read in books and online says to take the time for your new snake to get acclimated to their new home. Get them settled in and leave them alone for a week. Attempt to feed them... if that works great.... if not, then wait a few days to a week and try again. Sometimes things just don't go as planned.

Best of luck to you... Namaste, Jon

I actually switched >.>

I ended up getting a young albino male ball python and loved him so much I got a female yellowbelly a few days later lol.

I will eventually get a corn again but it'll have to be when I move out. My mom was pissed about the second BP [emoji14]

OK... so you have 2 new Ball Pythons... Congratulations. Now it is time to get a good book on ball pythons... The Complete Ball Python by Kevin McCurley. I just got this today from Amazon. Full of info and plenty of pictures. I paid about $42 US.

Remember that balls need more heat and humidity... and the care is somewhat different. Lighting as well.

Namaste,

I will look into the book. I've beeb looking for one. I've had them a few weeks though and did a bunch of research before getting them :)

They are both happy and healthy and have proper tubs.

When I get a corn again, I'm definitely going to hold out for a Blizzard. :)
