My Kingsnake is gross!

I have this new Kingsnake and she is gross, I mean really yuck!! Shes gorgeous and everything to look at but as soon as you pick her up she poos and weeeees all over the place. I have a corn that used to do it alot as a babe but he only did one mazzive poo and then that would be it, ..empty. But my King, she just does little bits constantly. She wips her tail and it flies everywhere. Its almost impossible to hold her now.:( There is no stopping the poo and no paper towel will do. She moves so fast its hard to hold her and with all that going on at the same time, its impossible. What should I do:eek:
Anyone out there have any ideas, she is really gross!:crying:

First thing that you shouldn't do

Once it poops on you, DO NOT LET IT DOWN!
If you do let it down, it will know that once it poops on you, you'll be letting it go.

If it gets used to it, it will properly be doing it for a lot more time~~

The same applies if the snake bites. DO NOT LET IT DOWN if it bites. Just make it know that pooping, being jumpy, and biting doesn't get it down at all.

Once it knows that these things should stop~~

I know, but its so gross

Thanks for that, I know I mustn't leave her down. I remember being told that when my Corn went through a time of doing it. However, it was easier with him as he just did one major poo and didn't do any more afterwards. BUT my king just keeps spraying and pooing non stop the whole time you hold her and it stinks, big time. My hands get covered in it and my clothes as it goes everywhere while she is wipping her tail all around. I'm not afraid of a bit of poo but this is ....... gross!!!!
HOw often should I take her out and for how long to try to get this to stop:confused:
Thanks again, all your advice is great and it really helps.
Maria:cheers:

Maybe the thing is just stressed out and scared. Don't hold it for a while and then try holding him very gently and slow.

Is he eating fine?

thank

Thanks, I will leave her for a bit and see what happens. No hassle with food, she tries to kill it even when its already dead!!! I wasnt used to that after my corn who loves his food too, but is so gentle and such good table manners!!!!
:D
I will give her dinner tonight and leave her alone till next week then.

i'm sorry to laugh, but the visual of your description (with the slinging poo and all) was desgustingly hillarious! =x

good luck with him!

I hate to tell you this, but there are a variety of kingsnake species that do this regularly. Is this a banded California king or a abino banded Cal king? The two mentioned are notorious for this type of behavior.

The last clutch of kingsnakes that I produced was last year, Albino banded Cal kings, I had 8 hatchlings and everytime they were handled that is exactly what they did. I got so aggravated that I sold all the hatchlings and the proven pair as well. I was tired of having urine and feces thrown all over my snake room!

Your snake may settle down, but it won't be until he is nearly a yearling.

Good Luck!

Yup, shes an albino

Yes, she is an albino with yellow zebra stripes on her.
Its unreal, and I guess I will have to get used to her. Its the way it gets flung literally all around the place thats so gross. My corn is so well behaved!!! AHH.
No actually my corn has started to poo into his water bowl from a height. He goes to the top branch and poos right above the water bowl. So I am changing his water bowl every day after hes contaminated it!! What is this with snakes and poo!!! Maybe my corn is just so well behaved he thinks hes got a loo in his viv and thats it!!! How bad, easily changed and cleaned out.
;)
Thanks guys for all your help and thanks to those who have had a good laugh, I wish I could let you have a hold of my nice kingsnake! You would never forget her!

Kingsnake poop reaction

I have a young eastern kingsnake. About half the time I take him out he dumps. My cornsnake never did this. I am assuming that this behavior will go away with time, it used to be everytime. The king is different from the corn when taken out. The corn used to try to get away when young (now just hangs on and explores with head). The king will stay still for several minutes and then start moving around.

Oh I am so fed up!

I really feel fed up at this moment! I only take her out now to feed her once a week and she goes mad, sprays the whole viv, covers your hand and that just as soon as I pick her up.
I feel like trading her in for a corn. I wonder if the petshop would swop! My corn used to poop on me but never like that, he would do it after about 5 mins of handling and you were prepared as you knew when he'd do it. But she just never stops and its impossible to handle her.
:awcrap:
Oh well!!!
Maria

Kinda takes the fun away when you have to deal with that! Just for the record, it is rare for a corn snake hatchling to act like that kingsnake your talking about. You mentioned that you had a corn that would do that as well...Out of all the corn snake hatchlings I have had, maybe one or two acted like that...

Good luck!

I've never had a kingsnake at all.
So this suggestion may be totally worthless (probably is).

But. Have you tried giving it a bath? As soon as possible when you take it from the viv? That seems to get the poo out of a corn pretty quick. I just wonder if a king would react similarly.

I wonder if he had to swim in it for 5 or ten or fifteen minutes, would he think twice before releasing the flood next time.

Good Luck!

I had a banded Cali Kingsnake before i got my cornsnake, and she always always pooped on me too. Zafel, my cornsnake, hasn't pooped once on me. Nico, the kingsnake, was also much more aggressive than Zafel.

thanks guys

Thanks for all your advice. I haven't been handling her much. Just when I feed, I handle her for a 5 minutes and she sits quietly on my hand, when she goes to move its time to put her down as she gets mad:angry01: and starts to wip her tail and try to get away. She is calming down and hopefully I can stretch the 5 mins into 10 at some point!

dress for the occassion???

hiya Maria
I don't know much about snakes but was wondering if 'dressing for the occassion' would work/help????

If you wore old clothes special for handling her maybe she wouldn't get too stressed and it might calm her too once she's used to them?

Also, does anyone know if snakes react badly to any scents or perfumes in particular??

thank you

Ya, can't beat the corns! And maybe I should 'dress for the occasion'. Got a point there. She is one cranky king!

dear maria

dear,maria
the way your snake has been acting is because it is afraid of you.i think u should wait a while before you pick her up again.just spend some time looking at her and rubing her.and you should also study her habbits of how she moves around.that might even give u some answers.

don't give up,
rockerbaby

I know that this is a old thread but I have a suggestion why not throw and old dirty (with smell not dog poo and dirt and sutch lol)in with you king. He will get used to the smell and hopefully get used to you.

On the topic of rags....

What if you took an old shirt or something of that nature (clean of course) and wrapped snakes back end in it? Kinda like a snake diaper. It would at least prevent the "flinging" (gross :puke01: ) of excrement somewhat. I would try it at least once to see how it goes...if snake gets stressed or more uptight, forget it. Just a suggestion!
