Hi, I doubt anyone remembers me I posted a couple times in November because I had my first snake starve itself to death and I got this one shortly after the fact and it eats thank god. I'm pretty sure it's a girl, here's some photos and she doesn't have a name yet so suggestions are very much appreciated....ALSO I want to breed someday (only thing I've ever wanted to do with my life is breed animals and be a vet, but I ended up in business, I might switch back to sciences, I have no clue what I'm doing) but for now I'm just learning. I've studied genetics before in school last year and on my own breeding bettas but corn snake genetics confuse me so much I don't understand the color patterns and their names. Anyways what color is my girl?

There's the link to the public photo album on facebook.

You have a beautiful normal! As for name suggestions, I find that my snakes tend to name themselves or I use what pops into my head that sounds right for that snake. And yes, some have pretty strange/weird names while others have well-thought-out names. There are many threads about cornsnake genetics that can help you get an idea. Check in the Gentics/Morph forum. Joe has an excellent sticky at the top. I also have a beginner's tutorial listed in my personal forum that may help.

Hey, the only thing I've been half consistenly calling her is Baby Blue since I thought her blue eyes in shed were super pretty. I looked at the thread posted there, it was exactly what I needed. I know about how genetics work as far as alleles/punnett squares and things go because I did study it a bit in university but I knew from before breeding bettas, the thing with corns I dont get is what the colors mean. At the bottom of that thread it says:

Genetic Makeup of Morphs

Amber: Caramel + Hypo
Blizzard: Charcoal + Amelanism
Butter: Caramel + Amelanism
Crimson: Miami + Hypo
Ghost: Anery A + Hypo
Granite: Bloodred + Anery A
Ice: Lava + Anery A
Opal: Lavender + Amelanism
Pastel: Anery A + Hypo (normally a very light ghost with pink hues).
Pewter: Charcoal + Bloodred
Phantom: Charcoal + Hypo
Snow: Amelanism + Anerythristic
Snow (Coral): Amelanism + Anerythristic + Hypo
Sulfur: Butter + Bloodred

I can't look at a snake and tell what charateristics it has. I don't understand what "something het something" means, that het word I see all the time. Is it just heterozygoes? I basically look at it and I can see why it's called butter or amber but to me it basically looks the same except for shade or something. I think I need to see the colors on a snake and then someone tell me (or a website) tell me what makes up that characteristic and since I'm pretty sure there's no reptile shows or anything around here for me to find someone to explain. This is getting off topic. Sorry :-offtopic

I'll think I'll make a new thread over there for this.
