Reasons a snake won't eat -
1. Not hungry
2. illness
3. stressed out (can be due to improper handling, improper housing, or improper temps)
4. is shedding or trying to shed
5. is preoccupied with mating or wanting to mate

you stated he has random scales shedding. Not sure what you mean, but if the snake is not shedding correctly and has "Retained Sheds" from previous attempts then that's going to be my guess as to the non eating.

To insure proper shedding, make sure the humidity is right, make sure temps are right, be sure to provide things for the snake to rub against, and by all means go to a vet.

A vet will be able to help your animal more than a few dozen people on an internet forum.

Hi Kim. How ya been?

Only 1 other reason I can think of to add onto Karl's possible reasons your snake might not be eating: Is it possible that "he" is a "she" and that she might be gravid? Solitary snakes who are healthy have been known to lay eggs sometimes even if they aren't fertile. Unless . . . Has he/she ever been paired, even for a short while, with another little sneaky one?

Easy to check. Just let your snake slither trough your fingers while you apply just enough pressure on its body to feel for a sting of pearls!!

Just a suggestion!!!:crazy02:

Magma has always had a good shed we always check it but, I have looked closely today and it looks like shedding in random scales not like it always had and with the temperature sporadically changing we have been monitoring her terrarium temps, how long can a 3yr old snake go without eating she has lots of things in her tank to help her she'd her water bowl is big enough for her to lay in but she never uses it to do so

Shedding random scales doesn't seem normal. Can you describe this more and provide pictures? I personally still won't know what to make of it, but perhaps some of the more experienced people might be more familiar with such an issue. A vet trip may not be a bad idea either.
I've recently read on a forum that mineral oil can have this affect on ball pythons scales. I have no idea if this is also true of other snakes, but is there any chance Magma has been in contact with any oils or chemicals that may be affecting her skin?

I'm just googling this as well, as I'm also curious what could cause it, but I would recommend you doing your own search as well because I have a notoriously short attention span...

It seems like medicated creams and fungal infections can also cause this dropping of scales, from my quick date with google. Again, unfortunately mentioned in relation to ball pythons. Nothing coming up on corn snakes specifically.
