my milk snake regurgitated

I have a 8 in wild caught milk snake. I fed him a pinkie last night and it regurgitated it some time last night. The pinkie looked big for him but it was the smallest I could get but he still ate it. Cage temp is 77-80 degrees. I did not bother it after it took the pinkie. I just let it be. It also has several hiding spots. If it was comfortable enough to eat so I don't think it was stress that made this happen. Is a whole pinkie to big for a snake of this size and would this cause it to regurgitate. Any suggestions thanks

I think you're probably right in thinking it was because of stress, especially since he's wild caught and his "whole world has been flipped upside down" in a sense. But it's hard to say..one of mine did that once, and I came straight to this forum which had the best advice to help me understand it - so you did the right thing in coming here:) There are other threads on this, but I just want to say make sure you don't attempt to feed him for at least 7-10 days, because it takes that long for them to build back(not sure if that how to say it) their digestive juices. If you try feeding him again before that happens, he will probably regurgitate it again - and that would be really bad. It's way more harmful to a snake than it is to mammals, they can even die from regugitating too many times. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Oops! I'm sorry, I misread - I thought you said "I think it was stress that made this happen" not "I don't think it was stress that made this happen" - I'm sorry!

Well, there are many factors that can cause a snake to regurgitate, improper temps, too big of a prey item and stress being the most common ones, I believe. You said the pinkie looked too big? Maybe it should have been chopped in half - I had to chop mine for my baby Ghost for a few weeks when I first got him. Maybe I didn't have to, but I thought it safest - and tip: it's easiest and cleanest to chop 'em when they are still frozen, I find.
But like I said, it's hard to say what caused it. I do wish you and your little guy the best, please keep us posted!
