from where i'm sitting nothing about it sez "bloodred", Corny...Looks like a very "Okeetee-ish" normal....maybe it's a sibling from a mixed clutch or even an outcrossed (het) bloodred?...Did the breeder give you any background on it?

No

Nope no background all he said was that it was a blood red and that it was too young for its pattern to go away. The colors are a lot brighter due to the flash.

Well which is it, an okeetee or a bloodred?

I personally say neither. That's not what a bloodred looks like, and that's definitely not an okeetee.

Nice snake, but definately not a bloodred...or a very 'ugly'/strange bloodred, the pattern and colours do not match....

do you have a picture of his belly? bloodreds don't show checkering

but like robert says....it's a nice snake

Corny, I don't see any bloodred look to that snake either. It looks like an Okeetee phase type baby. Definitely check the belly on your snake. If it is a bloodred, it should have no checkers and either be all white or have some degree of orange/red coloring on it. But definitely should have no signs of belly checks.

If you paid for a bloodred and it has belly checks, then you may want to contact the breeder.

Well i was told both

Well i was told that it has been both bloodred and okeetee. He does have a very very checkered belly but the problem with the pictues is the flash on the camera. The flash brightned up the colors so much it is hard to tell so our guess is as good as mine. He was only $40 as a yearling so i got my moneys worth i feel in any case i love the colors

You being happy with the snake is the most important thing. :)

If he has a very checkered belly then he has no bloodred influence more than likely. A full bloodred would have absolutely no checkers, as was said earlier, and normally a "het" bloodred shows signs by have reduced checkers and most times these run just along the outside edges. I would think there are some "hets" out there that have fairly full checkered bellies, but I would not count on yours as being of bloodred influence.

But, as you say, you love him regardless and he is a very nice looking animal.

I haven't ever heard of a bloodred okeetee either...but of course, a true okeetee has deep-red coloration...maybe the breeder meant something like that....

outcrossed corns(het bloodreds) have no full checkers on their belly, but a sort of vanishing stripe in the middle of the belly...just like gardenmum says, only the outsides of the belly checkers are fully black, but in the middle they are vanishing into creamy white(that's the ground colour of the belly ;) )

My own CB 04 bloodred has a fully white belly, with a few little red spots. I bought it from BassieMk1 last Sunday. Maybe I will try to take some pictures next week, but I'm still in a fight with my digital camera :p
