Nice setup. Where is the aspen substrate? Corns LOVE to burrow in it.

What are your temps?

Aspen isn't compulsory. I love the slate tile idea, looks really good. And as long as there are places to hide they shouldn't need aspen to burrow under. Very nice set-up. :)

Aspen/substrate is very much suggested. My snake loves to hide inside of his hides and dig under the substrate under the hides. The snakes sense of security is much more important. The lack of it can cause regurges and eating refuses. :sidestep:

While the slate looks nice I'm going to have to agree and say that there should be at least something your snake can burrow in. Even if it's only a hide stuffed with something.
Also, why is your (heat?) lamp in the middle? Normally you want to try and have the warm to one side and the cool to another, not in the middle.

Nice big set up though, I'm sure your snake will love it.

Q answred

Well first of all my snake eats like crazy and I have never had a refusal or regurge or even come close to that with him. I used aspen right at the beginning for a couple months but I didnt like it with him. He never burrowed in it at all and I had issues with it blocking to much heat. (Im in montana andit gets really cold here during the winter) Hes spent the last 24 hours zooming in and out of all his plants, trust me he feels plenty secure in there. The tile looks good, its easy to clean and it regulates temp evenly. I had the lamp in there on low cos it gets cold at night and it keeps the ambient air temp of the whole tank from dropping below 70 plus it allows me to veiw him zooming around :) He has a UTH for his warm side. We inlaid a square of glass into the bottom board of the tank for that. My temps look a bit low in this pic cos I had just put the themometer in the new tank from the old one and it hadnt adjusted yet. He generally likes the warm side about 81-83 and the cool around 75. And thats what I try to keep them both (other than when hes digesting I boost the warm side to like 83-85). Both the UTH and the lamp are on reostats to make that work. Um I got the tree from petsmart. Its called a lg bonsai and its around $24.00. Kinda spendy but I really liked it.

It's very pretty. I bet Strider loves it. Does the front drop down? If I had a set up like that, with the slate floor, I'd put in an aspen pool as an experiment, to see if he went into it ever.

Thanks for the positive comment :)

I think it looks incredible!!

FWIW...I think if it's OK to keep your snakes on newspaper or papertowels, or astroturf, there is no reason to cover the slate with aspen or any other substrate. As long as you have plenty of ground cover(check), lots of hides(check), and plenty of room for your snake to wander freely(double check), your snake should be fine. So long as he can hide wherever he wants and thermoregulate, I see no reason to change anything...It's a lovely enclosure...
