My New Snake and he just shed...

Just wanted to post a couple pics of my new corn. This is the first I've seen his (her?) eyes clearly. They were almost totally white on Monday when I bought him.
I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around all the different morphs. I've been told he's a typical corn coloration, but he has really thin almost grey instead of black lines, like I've seen in most of the pics of other typical colorations. He also seems to have a more salmon than orange tone. Or am I just still really confused :dunce:

Pretty! And welcome!

If the eyes were cloudy that means a shed is imminent - as you know based on the title of your post. And if you just bought him Monday, I would let him settle in for a couple days before you handle too much.

From the pic he looks like a Normal, although I won't definitively say. Even within the same morph there is variation though from snake to snake depending on exact genetic makeup. Ian's Vivarium is a great place to check out pics of all of the known morphs. HERE is a link to the normals.

He is a super cute looking snake! Congrats and welcome once again :)

Congrats. Looks like a beautiful normal to me, but if the black parts aren't really black, he could be a hypo. In any case he's a very handsome fellow. Wishing you a long and happy life together!

There are a lot of shades and color variations even in the "Normal" patterns. The Wild Corn snakes of Southern Florida Look different than the Corn snakes in Alabama, and the ones in Tennessee are different than the ones in North Carolina...etc..... Yet when you see one, you still recognize it as a Corn snake. The word "Normal" used to describe a corn snake refers to the "Wild Patterns" like you might find if you were actually out looking for corn snakes. Your picture is a bit dark, but I agree with the others, your snake is a "Normal" aka "Classic" aka "Wild Pattern" Corn snake.

I'm enclosing a photo I found a while back showing the 4 most notable "Normal" patterns. But then even these 4 can be different from snake to snake.

I would say for the sake of argument, your's appears to be of the "Carolina" type

Thank you! He shed Friday night, so I got some better pics. I checked that link, thank you for providing that info. I was curious because his belly checkers seemed different to me. They look to match the Hypo A exactly.
What do you all think?

As far as I know, washed out checkers don't always automatically mean hypo. Could you snap another photo of the side of the face? I think the eye color will be particularly telling.

I'm definitely more inclined to say normal over hypo. Most hypos I've ever seen have had red or orange irises, though I won't say it's impossible for one to have brown. I like the little beauty mark above the right eye! :D

Thanks! I didn't make it, it was a planter that I converted. I am, however in the process of making my own that look like this one. Mine will not be as heavy, though.

That's awesome. When you make yours if you want to, I'd love to see you post it in the DIY forum here. You snake is so cute peaking out!
