This is the juvenile ive had for a week

Nice pick up Barry, Wish I could own one. Laws in my state.
But I have to ask, is that your substrate your using??

Hi Lenny,

Macro shot with Nikon D200 + built in flash
The substrate was sold to me with the vivarium & snake. Called 'corn chip'. In England corn is usually wheat, this substrate is light & absorbant, clumping if 'messed upon'.
Vegetable based & inert if ingested with the snakes prey. Strange stuff, like white cat litter!

Oh, OK. Sorry, but at first glance it look like pebbles. Learn something new.
Let us know how it works. Now I'm thinking of it, your substrate sound like a cereal we have over here but old age hitting my mind right now and can't remember it's name.

So far it works ok, mind you, the snake has only "passed one motion" if you get my drift, that was in the water bath!!

I have a 36"x12"x12" Viv., heat mat inside tank taped onto the floor, as advised by manufacturer as its a wood/glass tank. Thin layer of this 'corn chip' over the mat (18" long mat) & maybe 1" deep over unheated end of tank. During the day the snake buries herself under the deeper unheated substrate. Is this normal behaviour??
Snake is 14months old & about 16" long & maybe 16mm diameter. Told to feed 1 pinky mouse per week, is that adequate?
Thanks for compliment of snake photo, Rich.

Barry

BY the looks of her she looks like she should at least be on Fuzzies if not hoppers. But I cant tell exactly from the picture. You should weigh her if you can and see what size she should eat that way. She is pretty :) I do like your bedding too, I wonder how well it works..

The snake is doing normal things it sounds, they seem to bury themself alot.

You could up that feeding if you want to five days if you feel you want too. but the main question is.. the pinky that you are feed the snake. Is it 1 1/2 time the snakes girth???? If not I would rather you bump the food size up cause they get more nutrition from a fuzzy than a pinky and more fro9m an adult mouse than a fuzzy , If you get that. :shrugs:

Have you got a digital thermometer? @£15 from Maplins, with a probe. You may find your heatmat is too hot if it's unregulated and need a matstat

Ive got a conventional one, dont Know how accurate it is?
Last night she stayed in a hide over the mat for a couple of hours, then moved to the cooler end. This morning she was curled up on the ledge above the mat, 10" up.
I handled her this afternoon, she had been at the cool end for a while. She was active but felt cold on my hands.

I will feed her soon, on a thawed fuzzie to see if she eats it, ive fed pinkies until now.

You will have to teach me, what is a 'hopper'?

Hoppers I know are juvenile unwinged Locusts you feed to lizards, Tarantula's etc.. :)

Wow, that sounds cool! I was just thinking that I wished I could use cat litter for my corn's substrate, but I'm sure it would be way too dusty. What is the actual name of the product? I want to check it out and see if it's offered anywhere in the states.

Btw, gorgeous snake! Looks like he/she will have very beautiful coloring as an adult!

Pretty snake :)

I agree with the other regarding stepping up the size of the mouse. My 2 are both 07's and both on single fuzzies, so im sure yours will welcome the upgrade :)

Looks Like grape nuts if that's the cereal, hehe!...I agree...

Corn cob is a bit dodgy for corns. Someone I know's corn ingested some and nearly died.
