They're all beautiful!!! I love the pattern on the red blood male...

Thank You. Lestat is a special boy...such a Sweetie!

Lestat is a beautiful snake! I love Raksha's name, too. Did you name her after Mother Wolf in "All the Mowgli Stories" by Rudyard Kipling?

Yes! That`s exactly where I got her name. I Love that You know that:)

Those Dumeril's are so pretty! Nice collection!

Thank You :)

What is a Red Tail Boa like? They have a few at one of the pet stores, going for $80 as they are on sale. Kind of a big snake I think.... at least for me. That's why I am interested in a BP. It's more manageable for me.

The RTBs will get about 8 feet long. Not really my favorite size either...LOL. All but 1 of ours belong to Daniel, He likes the bigger snakes. But, as far as feeding, Boas are the BEST eaters. It`s SO rare for a Boa to skip a meal.

Boas are too big for me to handle. I am not even 5 ft tall. Mama doesn't want a snake too big to handle. lol. Still very interested in getting bP

Red tails have the potential to get longer than 8 ft. they are considered a large boid and as such need waaay more space. Too much space for me to want one.

very true about boas eating. just know if you get a ball it will probably not be a very consistant feeder. they will probably give you a hard time on eating frozen thawed as well. some will eat good, and on occasion you will find one that will eat consistantly on frozen thawed. if you can find a breeder that already has you prospected animal on frozen thawed, that would be your best bet. but the majority of ball breeders feed live, because that is just how balls are. i am speaking from my personal experience with a few hundred balls, not any single animal. i know there are some people with balls that eat well, but most are sporatic at best. the feeding issue is the reason i no longer breed or own any ball pythons. bloods are really cool snakes that are pretty good eaters. they do get a little larger than a ball python will get, but not as large as a boa(at least not as long, most get a very impressive girth on them). do some research on alot of snakes, there is a lot of really cool boids that do not get super large. a boa is actually not that bad, they do get to an impressive size...but if you get one as a baby and learn as the baby grows, you will be fine. and you will learn your boa, and gain some very valuable experience. i think even at under 5', you could handle a boa, especially if you go with a smaller central american sub species. the t+ sunglow nicaraguans are amazing. they may be a little more bitey as a baby than a columbian, but they will chill out into a very mellow snake with gentle handling....and this will not take you as long as alot of people will tell you it takes.

the bloods I've been around are fairly aggressive animals. Not all types of bloods are this way, but on the whole they can be. Big, fat snakes too!

I wonder if the tub Plasma is in is her regular tub?

Plasma was a problem feeder when we got her. In fact, I had to force feed and then Assist feed her for months. Then when she started eating on her own, It HAD to be live. When, Finally, she was eating F/T consistently, I moved her out of the Baby Tub...And she quit eating again. After several frustrating months, I moved her back into her Baby tub & She started eating again. She has been eating weekly now for a couple of months, so I may try moving her again soon. I realize the tub looks too small...IMO, It`s too small. BUT, It`s what Plasma wants & Needs....Small & Tight.

Lestat & Plasma are SUPER Sweet! We can do anything with them. But, Daniel has a Borneo Blood (Akasha) who can be a real Witch. With frequent handling, she has calmed down a LOT since we got her. But she never enjoys being held. She switches her tail and is very "Twitchy". BUT, On the other hand, she has the best feeding response of the three of them.

Thanks for explaining, I thought there must be a reason for it...

No Problem :) I realize that I am fairly new on this Forum. So, Most of You don`t know Me or how dedicated I am to my Snakes. So, I may have to explain myself occasionally & that`s ok.

You have a beautiful collection! I myself have been looking for a "smaller" boa and your durmil is amazing!

Maybe if you had some smaller hides for her to squeeze into that would help when you move her to a larger cage. I'm not sure how the bigger one is, but if it's exposed on all sides like some tanks, it may be too stressful. You could cover three sides with dark paper to make her feel more secure. I had a chondro like that...took forever to get her acclimated to a new cage, but they can go a long time without food so I just let her be and she finally came off the bottom of the cage and perched. She's been fine since although she stresses easily.

Appreciate that advice...But, She DOES have hides & she is in a tub, not a cage or a tank & she is not exposed at all. And the "Bigger" one is just a bigger tub. We have 39 different pythons right now (Balls, Bloods, Carpets, Retic & Childrens). One thing I have learned is that it`s just all Part & Parcel when You have so many to have a few who are "Problem Feeders". I don`t mind the extra time & attention required to get her to eat. And I will do Whatever is required to get my snakes to eat. I have completely decimated rodents in an attempt to trigger the "Feeding Response" in some of my snakes. Plasma will move into her "Big Girl" tub when she is ready to. I have several sizes of tubs at my disposal and I will move her up in stages until she is comfortable with the extra room.
