My Snake has fleas!?!?!

So so today I moved the tank and I had to take out the water bowel to do so and it had 2 dead fleas in it.

I put fresh water in the a day ago.... maybe 2.

So anyways then I moved the log to see my new little guy and he had a flea on him!

now 10wks ago +/- the outdoor cat had kittens and of course I couldn't let them stay out so they came in we had a little bit of an issue with fleas then but the momma is back outside.... most of the kittens are gone. My indoor cat and the remaining kittens plus my dog have all been treated with frontline for months now. I havent seen any fleas on them nor on the carpet.

Now last night I did 5% 7 dust my floors.... and I have been doing so since our mild outbreak happened.... because I have a young baby and I'm not going to have fleas jumping around on her and what not.

SO what harm could the fleas do to the snake? and is there anything I might be able to treat his tank with?

This is the 1st time I have seem them in almost 6 weeks.
I find it odd that they are in his tank and I have only had him 2 weeks.... its a new tank, bedding and everything.

Are you sure they're fleas?

Mites are common with snakes. Look like little black seeds, look for evidence in the water dish.

It looked like fleas to me..... and it only made since because we had flea a while back.

Are the mites called "snake mites?" because I can google it.

what kinda evidence? I did see two of them in the water.

Thanks

Flea powder is likely to be toxic to snakes. I'd recommend not using it anywhere near them.

If they are mites they usually gather under the snakes lower jaw in the folds....You'll have to restrain your snake to look, and gently pull the folds apart to see if they are down in there....

Fleas from the cat might coincidentally had got into the tank with the snakes. If you confirm them as fleas, then the only way to get rid of them is to treat the infested cats and your home. Treating the snakes and tanks won't help, and might harm the snakes.

Snake mites are much smaller than fleas. They're tiny brown or black specks, and I always think they look a bit like ground pepper.

Even if they are fleas, you could probably use prevent a mite in the cage and it will kill the fleas too. Pyrethrins kill most insects very well, but is safe around reptiles and mammals.
