hey all this is my 2nd yr breeding corns but last yr i only had 1 snake to breed so not a whole heck of alot of experience here yet. the same one i bred last yr . is 4yo now and about 5-5.5 ft long .last yr she laid 28 eggs and didn't even look gravid this yr. she's so fat she looks like a burmese python instead of a cornsnake! i predicted she would have laid her eggs last wk end but nothing. all her fat is in the middle of her body not around the vent is this normal if she's gravid? if she's got eggs in her there must be about 40 of them. her last shed was april 12th. she's back and forth back and forth from dry hide to moist hide. she was rubbing her head today on a brick maybe she is getting ready to shed again but i never noticed her eyes blue again since last shed. she is eating but i'm feeding her smaller meals. any predictions if ya'll think she's gravid maybe another 10 days ? no way!! she's way to big ! she's got me confused this yr. gail

THey want a comfortable moist atmosphere to lay in and you mentioned in another thread that you have her moist hide under heat and she only spends an hour at a time in it before returning to the cool side. Why not try moving the moist hide and see if she will take to and settle down more? she should want to spend all her time in this if she were ready to be laying.

If she is gravid she is far past her prelay shed laying time so somethings a bit off for sure. I have been fooled in the past by girls who just had lots of ovum and fat deposits though...got a pic of her current condition?

i already put another moist hide on the opposite end of her tank . it's a 65 gal. tank so it's big enough i can do that . today i didn't even turn on her heat lamp and she stayed put all day . i don't have a pic of her present condition but maybe this week end i'll get the chance to take 1. thanks gail

To be honest, predicting when a Corn is due to lay is a bit of a Dark Art. I think they average around 5 weeks after mating, but the actual date will depend on where the female was in her reproductive cycle when she mated and there's no way of knowing that precisely (although sometimes you can feel the ova when they're ovulating).

You may have another week or two to wait - I hope you have enough fingernails left, because they'll be chewed for a few more days yet!
