I know these pics aren't great, but I thought I'd get them up so people can at least see the set-ups and recommend anything wrong / right with them. I'll post proper snake pics in a few days when I can pick them up, so I hope this post is ok here even though it doesn't have much in the way of snakes :D.

Sorry that the pics are so bad - my camera is not great (Minolta Dimage 7Hi 5mp), and I don't really know how to use it for close-up work. If any of you feel like buying me a nice new EOS for Christmas that would be lovely :D Hahaha.

Note that only 001 and 002 contain snakes. That's Taka, the Butter Motley. Just warning you to save you bandwidth if you didn't want to just look at the tanks XD.

I'm really sorry for the lack of snakes in these pics. It should be easier when I can handle them, but with the weather we're having here right now it's always grey and gloomy, and with low light I'm having a really hard time with my camera :(.

Pics are JPEG, 800x600 and range from 74kb to 131kb - just a heads-up if you're on 56k or something :).

Basically there's two shelves - top and bottom. Top has Ammy, and bottom has Taka. Both tanks are set up the same -
Aspen for substrate,
Two snake hides (one with damp moss, the other with Aspen),
One water dish
One piece of bark
And thermometers of course. I'll probably feed them this Friday or so. So far Taka has been the only active one - Ammy hasn't been seen since I put her in there (yes, I did check that she was in and that all the hatches were locked :D) so she's probably hiding in a snake cave.

Will get more pics when they come out, if not I'll get some before I feed them on Fri ^^.

Oh yeah, we have a seperate seeding tank - it's nothing to write home about, just a plain small plastic tank with carrying handle. It doesn't have much floor space though - about 7" long by 4" wide (and about 7" high) - will that be ok? It doesn't have any substrate as it seems whatever I read on substrate, anything can get accidentally ingested with the mice.

Temps seem to be about 75 in both cases, though it's hard to tell since my thermometers are small and cover far too big a range so the actual space between 70 and 80 is tiny. Is that about ok though? The thermometers are situated dead in the middle of the tank, at the top (where the grilles are).

Heat mats are slightly off center (half way), and substrate is about 1" thick (though in Taka's tank it's about half that at the warm end.

This all ok? :)
 
Right, here we go,

I was just doing the daily spot-check, and I caught Ammy sitting still in her cave... So I got some pics :D

HERE are some pics in Jpeg format, 800x600 and quite well compressed, so they range from about 100 to 160kb each - 5 pics in total.

THIS LINK goes to the original, uncompressed high-quality TIF images. They are around 4mb in size each, 1280x960 resolution. So if you have broadband and a nice big display, look at these ones instead :D.

Another update!

Ammy was looking for an escape and clinging round the exit to her tank earlier, so I though this would be a good time for her first let out!

As usual, JPEG images (smaller ones at 800x600), and TIFF images (Big ones, about 3-4 megs each). 6 pics total out of about 35 - these were the only good ones :/.

She does like trying to escape :D. She feels lovely to hold, though I put her back after 3-4 mins since she was breathing heavily and was trying to escape a lot. Enjoy the pics!

Hi Arby,

Do you wet the moss in your viv? Im just curious..i've noticed that some people have it for thier corns..I currently do not..but am wondering if this should be provided?
 
I have two snake caves in each viv, and yes I do currently "moisten" it daily by spraying the top lightly with a standard light water-spray. So, I don't soak it like it says to on bags of Spagnum moss, but I lightly moisten it. It has always dried out by the next day.

I myself do not know the correct answer to this question, all I can say is that I have heard:

* If the substrate or moss is too damp, the snakes can get blisters
* They like it damp especially when they are shedding, as well as the tank being more humid
* Both of my snakes always hide in the moss-cave, never the Aspen one.

I hope that helps somewhat :).
 
The too wet substrate thing only applies if their entire cage has wet substrate. If you let them pick and choose, they will do what is best for them.
 
They are both beautiful, Arby, and from how mine behave I can only imagine they are terribly happy with all those hiding spots. They were clearly happy with the mice...
