Anery & Crimson - Bubbles & Claudia

Claudia is the smaller of the two but shes the greedier - hasnt realised that 130lbs of human is a little too much for her to handle :)

Good looking Crimson! I love those intense red saddles. :)

Shes bright cos she just shed in the last 2 days - not sure why but she seems to be getting areas of white in the red saddles - suspect shes het for something... dont have an idea what though.

Im considering getting some adults and starting breeding - Im a confirmed snake addict now *sigh* lol

Increasing amount of lighter colour in the middle of saddles might be just a normal and common part of a corn growing up. I have no idea why it happens, whether it is because of growth "stretching" the saddles and this way exposing some background colour in the middle of saddles...or not... Anyway, as far as I know, this feature isn't usually seen as a het. marker.

She might or might not be het. for something (the most likely would be anery in case she's from a line of Silver Queens) but as I see it, hets or no hets, the saddles probably don't have anything to do with it.

Thanks for the info marinnelli :)

They have suddenly taken to curling up like that together on the top of the log hide at the back of the viv and just sitting there for hours - it might be that they're getting older and less scared of being lunch or that they're more used to their new home.

Im going to seriously look into getting a couple of adults and breeding them - would love little babies in the fullness of time..

incidentally - what would I get if I bred these two? - im thinking from the genetics as I understand it I would get something similar to a normal but if anyone knows more...

Crimson is a hypomelanistic Miami Phase. Hypomelanistic means that it has reduced amount of melanin (black pigment) which makes it brighter and lighter in colour. Miami Phase is a local variety of normal corn (meaning this kind of corns can be found in the wild), and it has silvery grey background colour and dark red/brown saddles. Hypomelanistic added to Miami Phase causes light creamy or greyish background and red saddles. Crimsons - as they are selectively bred - act just like a Hypo if put together with any other morph that is not of miami phase background. For example Crimson + Ghost = Hypo het. Anery. So I'd suggest you pair you Crimson with other miami phase originated morph like Silver Queen.

If you pair your Crimson with your Anery you'd get all Normals het. Hypo, Anery (assuming they're not het. for eachother's traits).

If your snakes are opposite sex you shouldn't keep them in the same viv! They'll be sexually mature around the age of 1 or 2, and if they mate then, the female will surely be too small to lay eggs and she'll die.

im gonna split them when theyre a little older - i know about the egg binding problem but theyre young as yet - the anery is 50cm long by .8cm at widest - still babies :)

Update:

I am hopefully getting a Amel & Ghost pair - adults - pink/pale pink & white/cream respectively

I've split my two up - Claudia's in the viv and Bubbles is in a smaller enclosure I made up. They both seem ok but she looks so tiny on her own :(

Further Update:

It seems that Claudia had no problems with her room mate Bubbles...

It appears that it was the size of the space she was in that was upsetting her since she was on her own in the large viv for a while and didnt seem to be growing although she'll happily scarf down 3 pinkies at a sitting...

Since shes been in the baby-viv shes gotten alot more lively and happier and just all round looks better - literally glowing with health.

There is something I have noticed on both of them though. its to do with the eyes - is it normal that when they look down there seems to be a square bottom to the pupil? it just looked a little weird is all - they are both perfectly healthy and two little eating machines :)
