My UV light

Hi I recently bought a light for my snake because my heating pad wasn't heating the tank just enough. But I'm wondering if I should leave it running all day long or turn it off at night?

its usually a good idea to turn it off at night so your snake will have a good day/night cycle. just make sure it doesn't get too cold at night.

ya thats the problem because my pad isnt very good and when the lights off the tank gets to around 70.

That is perfect for a cornsnake. I wouldnt worry to much on that.
People tend to forget Corns are fine in human standard "Room" temps. As long as your snake doesn't get to cold I believe he will be fine at night. Remember in their natural habitat for some locals they are already under a foot of snow and ice

I guess my first question would be as to how your measuring your temps? Are you just measuring air temp? Or do you also have a thermometer measuring the temp on the bottom of the tank right on the UTH? It would be best to have the temp of the UTH regulated with a thermostat or rheostat.
Good luck with your baby!

Good questions, I'd be curious to know this too. Even my oldest heating pad has no problem getting the temp of the glass up to 100 if I'm not careful.

I have two air thermostats one on the warm side and one on the cold. But I dont think I can get a thermostat for the UTH because my mom is sick of spending money on my snake haha.:blowhead:

Mine doesn't I had to buy a lamp just to keep temperature in 80's. Oh the quality of Petco.

A heating pad is a heating pad if it was bought from a petstore, unless it's a dud and then should be returned. Where are your probes/therometer kept in the tank? They should be at the level of the substrate/bedding, not at the top or even in the middle of the cage.

For the record, five of my seven heating pads were bought at Petco and every one of them has seen at least 100, including the oldest one that was bought in 2001. Which is why some of us are thinking you may not be reading the correct temps in your set-up.
