MY VERY FIRST CORN!! ((Meet Swiper!))

Ok, after a lot of coaxing of my madre, I FINALLY GOT MY VERY FIRST CORN! And well, i thought it would be a snow corn, but Petco had one ABSOLUTELY B-E-A-U-tiful corn that i simply HAD to have! The lady who helped me out seemed to know ALL about them, and thinks he's a Sunglow or a Candy Cane.....but i dont care, he's mine, he's BEAUTIFUL, and well.....my whole family, exepte my older sis and mom have accpeted him into the family......thats 7 people!!!

Ok, well I got him aspen chips for bedding and he likes them so far. He has an UTH that is keeping the warm side of the tank 85 degrees....the rest of the tank is 79-80 degrees, and he has a water bowl that he LOOOOOOVEs to sit in!! ITS SO ADORABLE!

OK, the lady there told me not to feed him for a few days, but, he looked like he haden't been fed in a while, and well, hey, i bought 4 pinkies ($1.39 a piece  ) and so i thought i'd at least TRY to feed him! SO, i defrosted a lil pinky for him, and then left it in the tupperware container. I picked him up slowly (HE'S SO CUTE!!!) and slowly lowered him down towards the pinky and at first he tried to get away, but then i put his nose next to it and he could smell it. He bit on it hard and within a minute he gulped it all down! HE WAS A HUNGRY BOY!! I'm glad he ate it.....I guess its a good thing, that he's willing to eat and well, i couldnt help myself but here are his picks....They are a little fuzzy, but its all i could get so far.....he wouldnt stop moving!!!

Flash on.....he lookes a little wierd in this one!

I hope you all like him! He's only a baby....but he'll get bigger and more handsome....and if anyone knows what he is, color wise, help me out, cuz so far its between Candy cane and Sunglow.....

Congratulations! You seem to have the basics covered, and I'm sure someone with more know-how will chime in if I've missed something. The main reason to leave him alone for a few days after you get him is to acclimate him without stress to his new home. You should also leave him alone for at least 48 hours after you feed him so he can digest stress-free. Good luck! :)

Sorry for the double post, but I wasn't sure by the pic if your feeding container has a lid. I'd get something with a clear lid just to make sure. He's real purty!

I know i know.....and he's in his little hiding place right now peacefully digesting his pinky in his warm cage! I love him a lot, and look forward to having him for many years to come! But i still dont know what he really is

?????????????? Sounds like I was working there.

Congrats on your new corn (I see you watch Dora the Explorer) and welcome to the site. Ask questions and pay attention to the answers because the majority of the people on here know what they are talking about. This is a great place for a newbie and everyone is very helpful :wavey:

Congratulations!! Your snake sure is a beauty!! I would definitely let him acclimate to him environment (I know, I know.. It is hard to resist holding him at first!! lol) but after 2-3 days or so Im sure he will be fine... As far as what he is, Im not sure the pictures are clear enough to tell for sure... If you post better ones though, lots of people here on the site will be able to help identify it for you!! Good Luck with your new snakey!! :)

Uhh....looks like a nice normal amel to me, not reverse, candycane or any other linebred amel...

How do you know this snake is a hybrid, Laanxx99?

He doesn't, and neither do you. There are plenty of creams hatched every year that look exactly like that one.

cka is correct. I dont know if it is or isnt. I simply said it's what I thought it looked like. No biggie.

It seems like you got some good information at the store. Although Sunglow and Candy Cane are at the most opposite end of the spectrum of amel you can get..
The picture quality is too blurry to see the amount of white on your snake but it looks like a normal amel to me. If it colors up nicely with no white on it it could very well be a Sunglow as well. See the color in between the red? It's pretty orange, in order for your snake to be a Candy Cane there would need to be a lack of orange.
Try to stick with the advice that you got, good luck to you and your snake!

Wow! Thanks for all the advice everyone! I got some better pictures for all of you......OH, and at the store, the lady there wsaid the three snakes there were related. The other two were Snows, so I guess he has snow in him somewhere! well, anyway, please help me identify this little guy! (BTW, he's 14.5 inches long!!)

All 14.5 inches of Swiper

Well lets just say you take your snake maybe not being a sunglow MUCH better than other members... *caugh caugh*

whatever it is..........it's a nice snake. i would tell you to read the thread "sunglow" but i don't know if you have 5 hours of free time and you are a little young to be reading some of the vulgarities there. as mentioned above, whatever it ends up being remember first and formost it is yours and nothing can change that.

My first corn came from Petco 7 years ago. I wanted "the white one" (tells everyone how much I knew at the time!). When I held the little snow it was a spazz. I put it back. I held the "red one" and it was super calm and friendly. I carried it around the store with me while I was buying supplies. I named it Bruneaux. I now know so much more. Bruneaux is the matriarch of my snake clan. She looked like a typical amel baby, as does yours, and she has since grown into an amel with dark orange and red with very little white.

Congrats on your baby!

Lovely amel! Just wait for maybe half a year and we'll probably be able to tell if you'd better keep calling it an amel or could call it a reverse okeete. I don't think sunglow is a possibility, seeing all the white...

Awe thanks guys! He really is a perty snake, and he's really sweet too....calm and willing to let me hold him.....but quick to eat!
