My very first snake!

Greg529

DO YOU FOLKS LIKE COFFEE?
I just want some thoughts on him. I think he looks great. I just got him 4 days ago from Kathy Love and I fed him for the first time yesterday. Since this picture was taken, he has gained more color (the picture was taken by Kathy about 2 weeks before I got him).

Thanks! I held him yesterday twice, a few hours before feeding him and the first time he was scared but the 2nd time he let me pick him up with no problem. Now I'm just hoping he'll digest yesterday's meal fine.

It's a beauty, Greg! I hope he grows into a big, healthy, handsome fella for ya!

Congrats on the first snake and welcome to the forum. :D

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your first snake. I'd say you've got a really handsome looking boy. Kathy definitely has very nice Okeetees. Keep the pics coming. We'd love to see how his colors change as he grows. Once again... welcome and congrats!!!

Thanks everyone for the welcome messages. I'll definitely be taking more pictures as he grows. He's been sleeping in his cave, digesting, for most of today.

Most people have a favorite morph, but EVERBODY loves Okeetee's :)...Thats a beauty, and welcome to CS...

Congrats! He sure is a vibrant little fella! I've always liked Kathy's critters!

Welcome to the forums and I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures of your new boy!

Jenn

Congrats, you definatly have a looker there.

I hope you know what you got yourself into! You can never stop with just one. I myself only have one corn snke, but also a ball python, and I am in the search for a worthy female for my ball for next years breeding! SO I hope to have a couple more balls and corns!

Best of Luck

Brandon

Haha, I've heard that they become sort of an addiction. But I'm young, still live with my parents, and THEY decide what pets I can get. It was hard enough to convince them to get just this one.

Here are some new photos that I took just yesterday. I've fed him twice so far and he hasn't shed yet with me. (Sorry for the poor quality photos. My camera is TERRIBLE.)

Sad news...

My snake passed away sometime today. I found him dead in his water bowl when I got back from my first day at school this year. I just don't know what went wrong with him. He was very very small. I was always checking with Kathy to see if my viv was just like the way she had kept him. Just 3 1/2 months old... so sad.

I kept stress minimal, temps were always right with no extreme fluctuations, had many places to hide, changed his water frequently, cleaned out all his poop; what more could I have done? Nothing I guess...

I just had high hopes for him, coming from Kathy. I know it's not her fault, and I certainly hope it wasn't my fault... maybe he was just sick. I have him in a plastic back in the freezer right now and I e-mailed Kathy about it. Maybe I can get a discount on an adult snake in a year or so (I know it sounds like I don't give a crap about the snake personally, and all I care about is money... not true. Hey, I'm just a high school student with no job and I spent literally all my money on him)? I don't want to give up on keeping snakes. I reall do love them. But this just sucks... :(.

my condolences and thoughts are with you......my first snake was an okeetee (my favorite) and i lost her also. nothing really can be said to cheer you up but believe me, it does hurt. sorry again and hang in there.

Well... at least there is some good news...

Kathy, being the generous person that she is, said she would pick out the biggest of what she has left whenever I'm ready and I'll just pay for shipping. She's great.. more people need to be like her :). It's just hard to get over the loss.... he was so tiny and my first snake. I'm going to wait for awhile before I feel I can get another one. Thanks to all the people who are giving me support. It means a lot.
