I picked up a pair of adult corns a few months back from the local pet shop because they were locked up. The male is a blizzard, and the female was a snow. These are the only corns I have ever messed with, I really didnt expect anything from the pair, but I got 11 good eggs from her that started hatching yesterday.

Now, I know that a blizzard corn is Amelanistic and anerythristic type b, and the snow is amel and anery, so I was expecting an albino clutch het for both types of anery right?

well, I got these so far, sorry for the crappy pic, I had to use my phone

Like I said, I dont know much about corns at all, but I have at least 3 different types of babies so far. one is all white, but not out the egg yet, looks like albinos, snows, and a visual anery???

Shouldnt all of the babies have been albino to start off with, how did the grey guy sneak in the clutch? I guess they each had hidden hets that were unknown, but can anyone identify the babies for me? Like I said I am a NEWB!!

Thanks!

either that, or the female may be het for type b also, right? Either is possible I guess. My biggest puzzle is how the anery popped up in the first place, they should have all been albinos

In the pic I only see amels (some paler, some darker) and an anery. Althoug a better pic would help a lot!

Yes, Snow x Blizzard should produce ONLY amelanistic babies. Snow and Blizzard babies are also possible if parents are het. for eachothers traits. But an Anery shouldn't be possible.

"If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and swims like a duck - IT'S A DUCK"

So the most probable solution to this situation - IMHO - is that either the blizzard male isn't the father in the first place OR the female has mated with two different males and some babies are from the blizzard male and some (like this anery) are from a different male. Remember corns can retain sperm for a long time, so the mating might have taken place some time last year.

Another possibility would be some sort of genetical mutation which would cause the "skipping" of amelanism...but that would be more like "a cat imitating the duck"....so the previous theory is MUCH MUCH more likely. :)
