Well our oldest female is laying eggs as we speak. Unfortunately one of the eggs that's visible to us has a HUGE turd on it.

We're wondering, since this has never occured for us before, should we just gently wash it off? If so, what's the best method?

Hope to see some responses before she's done laying and we have to move her. Thanks in advance!

I don't think there would be any harm done to gently wash it off. Just make sure the water temp isn't too cold or too hot.
 
I think you'd be better off simply wiping it with a damp towel. I'd say you shouldn't actually stick the egg under the faucet.
 
I'm sure it is too late for you now, but for general future reference, it is quite possible to drown eggs and so not advised to place them under water.
