Need help wiring heaters

OK, my husband for as long as he can remember has been using heating pads under the enclosures by just splicing a dimmer into the heating pads cord. Problem is, the new heating pad controls have an auto off function. So if we wire it the old way, the heater will be on for a little while and then shut off. So I am guessing I need to bypass the entire original control from the heating pad. Has anyone ever done this? There are 2 wires coming from the AC plug to the control unit and 3 wires coming out going to the heating pad itself. I need to know, is one of the 3 wires eliminated or are 2 of the 3 wires to be spliced together?
