Need help with securing sliding screen with pin

I just found my hatchling in my sock drawer last night and he had gotten out of his tank even though the lid was shut with the pin in. I guess there was enough give in the lid to let him squeeze through. I was wondering what is best to secure it so he cannot squeeze out again. Right now I have tape keeping the lid on flush, but that's just a temporary solution.

Thanks.

Well, he tried to pull off how he escaped the first time I got him. Since he is a bit bigger now so I thought of trying to put the thermostat and thermometer probes back inside the tank which leaves a small gap. My boyfriend caught him trying to escape today. So...I need some happy medium where I can have the probes functional but leaving the tank escape-proof. After he escaped the first time, I attached the thermostat probe to the underside of the UTH then adjusted the temperature according to the digital thermometer reading from the inside. (I hope that is okay.)

Cut or file a slit in the plastic edging on the back side of the tank where the top/screen slides in. Make it just wide enough for the wires. You might have to cut a slit in the edge of the top/screen also.

So I stopped at Michael's and spent $10.

Tools
-round jewelry file
-scissors

Materials
-adhesive velcro strips
-iron-on patches

I filed away at the plastic on the back until I reached the glass. The round file was the perfect size for the wire. I then cut the fuzzy velcro in half and trimmed a little off one side so it'll be easier to pull off the hook-side of the velcro. I stuck the hooked velcro on a patch then trimmed off the excess. And all done!
