I will never again trust my mother with the care of my snakes. All she had to do was watch the water and refill when they got low. I had water bottles next to each of the tanks so she all she had to do was poar the water in. Guess even that was to much. I was gone for two weeks. I had turned off the heating pads since my room with the door shut gets around 80 to 85 on its own and they would not be getting any food. I gave them all a meal two days before I left, filled the water bowls right before I left. Closed my door, told my mom to check on the snakes and the water every few days. Wrote a note and stuck it on the bathroom door that is right next to my room. About a week after I left I called her to ask how they were, she said fine. Few days before I was planning to be back called her again to ask how they were, she said fine. Got a call from my sister the day before I was planning to be home that my friend's snake (snake sitting since her parents flipped about the snake) was dead and mine (Ava) was not doing very well. She told me there was NO water in either bowl. Since Ava was still alive, I told my sister to put some water in the bowl and put Ava into it, keeping her head above the water. Must say I was shocked when she said ok, she never touchs my snakes. She put Ava into the bowl and I guess left her. Not really sure what happened but when I got home the next day Ava was dead, half hanging out of the bowl. It was not a pretty sight to come home to. In fact I felt like puking. I never thought that I would have to worry about my mom taking care of the snakes or lieing to me about how they were doing. Needless to say I felt crushed because I was rather attached to little Ava. She was the first snake to give me so many issues. It wont be happening again thats for sure. I have worked it out with my friend, the one I was snake sitting for, and her parents that she will be able to watch my snakes whenever I leave as long as I take them back. I'm not sure if I will be taking Kryp over to her house or not. He has a large dog bowl in with him and while the water was nasty he still had water. Moving all of his stuff is harder then moving two 10g tanks.

Below are pics of them when I got home. As well as 2 of Ava when she was still kicking. First two are Ava, third is Scarlet then Ava again.

This is why I don't go on vacations longer than a couple days/nights.... there is a price you pay for being a pet owner.
 
I am so sorry to hear hear that, it sucks when people who are supposed to love you fail you so miserably. I hope she makes it up to you.

Before you completely disown your mother, I think there is something more than just running out of water here. If you left them with water then their bowls were probably only dry for a week or so. That is not good but is something a snake can handle.

One of your pictures makes the snakes body look deformed. Is that just the picture? I’m sorry for your loss, I really am, but I think you are making the wrong assumption as to the cause.

That is terrible, I am very sorry for your loss.
That said, I think Wade makes a good point. A snake can most likely handle a week without water if the temps aren't extremely high. And judging by how deformed the body looks, I would be surprised if this was due to a simple lack of water, for only maybe a week of being without. It just might be the cause, but I would look more into it, because I'm kind of surprised that this would be the result.

I never knew how much I liked blotched kings til I got one of my own.
RIP little Ava, you are missed....
 
I too question if it is the lack of water that caused the death of your baby. It looks like there was something more then lack of water that may have killed your baby. Please try to be easy on your mom until you find out the truth.
 
Thanks all for your comments. Ava was deformed in the nose area but the vet said it was not something to worry about. Im not sure what the temps got up to. I know at some points it was over 90 outside and my room seems to hold heat. Im not sure what else it coud have been since both were fine when I left. Im more upset that she kept telling me they were fine and she was checking on them only to find out the bowls were dry.
