new 3 year old(rescue)

nothing furry

except for food
today, the local pet shop called me in to pick up an albino corn snake(I named 'MR. BIG') that belonged to a little punkass kid(maybe 15). the mom said that he had to give it up, although the kid did'nt care. the kid was a spoiled little prick, the entire time they were in the store, the kid was on his damn phone......he's 15. ANYWAY, the snake was bought for the little bastard 3 years ago, they bought a 40 gallon breeder, heat light, under tank heater, hide.......blahblahblah.

O.K. remember its 3 years old.
this poor corn was in BAD shed, the tip of his tail looked like hell, with at least 3 sheds stuck on his tail, along with the rest of his body(but after the bath we gave him I think we got it off his tail on time)

the biggest reason they brought the little guy in was that the kid "forgets" to feed him, and the mom wasn't gonna touch it.

I'm trying to NOT bad talk and use foul words to describe the mom and son, out of respect for you all, but these idiots make it very, very hard.

I'm not describing the snake because I want you to see him.

this is what the snake was housed in(40.g breeder)

this is what came off the poor little guy(most of it was on the rag)

THAT'S A 3 YR OLD???? Omg. and I was upset with the size of my 18 month old and 10 month old babies! Those people should not EVER be allowed to own any pets ever again! I'm so glad that poor thing went to a good home where he will be able to start to live a healthy life in a great environment. Congrats on a wonderful rescue! KUDO'S!!!

yeah its 3. isn't it crazy, I also have 1 year old thats maybe a third bigger.
Hey NF, this guy looks to be in pretty good shape from the pictures. But still with your care this snake should bounce back.
But I will tell you something though, this doesn't surprise me. I personally have seen snakes in worse condition and they were more expensive than Corns. Bad sheds, mouth rot and serious infections on the poor animal. Terrible site to see, heck. I adopted an iguana 3 weeks ago and she was in our care for most of it but last week she had to be put down. She had MBD and her kidneys and liver were failing. The vet bill ran us about $300 and we had her less than a month. I wish you better luck with this little guy but when you adopt an animal from someone like that, the odds are slim that they will live a long and healthy life.

despite the severely stunted growth he seem pretty happy, so I'm hoping he live a long loved(now) life. Now that you mention it.....you reminded me of a "friend" I used to have, he was big into retics, burms, and bloods(and not the cheap ones). He was hell bent on starting a bussines and started loosing money faster than he could make it, I offered to keep his....I cant even call them pets, cause all he thought of them as was PROFIT.
anyway, when I offered, he said NO.(big ego).I neverthought that he was in such bad situation or else I would of done a little more to take the animals from him.

this was 5-6 months ago. I saw him again a while ago, a month or so. and he told me that his power Had been turned off, as well as the gas.SO, instead of him letting me keep them, he lost 2 lemon heads, 2 super tigers, female albino burm, and countless eggs accept for ONE single egg, (which was an albino burm(M) . Needless to say I cut ties with him. and not in themost polite of ways.

so, I know exactly what you mean.
Sorry about the little iguana. now a days Iguanas, along with ball pythons seem to be disposable animals, people buy them cause their cool, or cause they think they cancare for them until they get bored of them and 'let it loose' or 'give it away'.Or they just don't provide the right care and KILL it. its sad.

but I'll stop rambling now :crazy02:

Well done for saving the little guy : )

:-offtopic

I have a 2 year old thats 28 inch now, i donno if thats good or bad (ill have to do some research on the right size for the right age, mine gets fed, one small adult mouse every 7 days..

Looks like he's gone to a good home. Poor little guy needs some FOOD, and some TLC, which I'm sure he'll be getting!

:-offtopic I'm from PHX too!

A little too late to not bad talk and use foul language. Please try a little harder next time.

lol, MY appologies, sincerily.
but at the time thats as mild as I could get.
I will try harder in the future. :spinner:

Good job on rescuing the little guy. I know how you feel. If you research some of my past posts, you'll find where I rescued a BP froma similar situation(who is doing incredibly well now), and cali king that I had to put down just today, but I was able to take home the mate.

Some people just don't care, and, unfortunately, if it isn't furry, and cuddly, they just don't see them as pets, and therefore fail to provide ANY of the basic necessities.

I think people should be required to pass a basic care and husbandry test before purchasing snakes...or MOST pets, for that matter...

hmmm.. well last night was our monthly herp society meeting and they had a stunted Cal king like this up for adoption. Great looking snake with a wonderful pattern. Well the woman who picked him up we both started to talk about stunted snakes. This snake was also "3" years old but no bigger than 100 grams. Now when we talked about stunted snakes she stated with proper care and feeding this snake may actually bounce to adult size in about a year.
(Part of me wishes I would have gotten that snake now so I could do that experiment with a growth and feeding chart)

Now I do not know how true this is mind you, and others may chime in on this discussion and I would love to see some of the longer time breeders talk about this. But stunted adults tend to gain adult size rather fast compared to a young snake naturally at this size.

Now if you follow the Munson Plan, your snake should be up there in no time. I wish you the best of luck.

thanks for all the help, and T.pup, thanks for the Munson plan. Its actually pretty similar to what Ive used in the past

People do not take care of their animals mainly because they do not know what is required. My wife is a reptile and avian specialist (though she won't touch snakes LOL) at a big chain store. One of their kingsnakes was refusing to eat for a few months so they had to take it to the vet. The vet told them to force feed it an earthworm. So how can this pet store give the correct care information to their customers if the vet doesn't even know what is going on. If people researched a little more and did not let their kids annoy them into buying an animal for them then it would be a lot better.

"kids annoy them into buying an animal for them then it would be a lot better"

...and thats a big problem too, Just to shut them up.

"that lil punk@$$ kid needs to stick that cell phone up his @$$"

I agree.
