New Addition - Red Tailed Green Rat

Today, my newest addition finally arrived. We had a mix up with the shipping address differing from the billing address and somehow my snake almost ended up in Indiana. She would've been here Tuesday morning if not for that mix up, but she's here now.

She's super flighty and very quick. I was pretty surprised that I was able to handle her for a few minutes without being tagged. She's a beautiful snake and I'm really excited to have her.

So here she is...

I didn't catch any pictures with her tongue flickering, but she has an awesome blue tongue.

AS I already said on the DYK thread...

VERY NICE!!! I love these guys and your little one is BEAUTIFUL!!! Congrats to you for getting one of these gorgeous snakes. Please DO do a progression thread for her... I would love to gawk/admire pics of her as she grows!

WOOOOW. I mean wow. I was literally saying it out loud when I looked at those pictures. What a gorgeous snake... Where did you get her?

Thank you guys.

I found an ad for them on another site. She came from Prehistoric Pets in California. I believe he only had 3 to sell, 2 females and a male. I bought one of the females and I think he still has the other female as well as a male.

What does she eat?

In the wild they raid birds' nests more then anything so the wild caught ones can be difficult to switch to rodents. I'm lucky though because being captive bred, she came well started and feeding on hoppers already.

Wow! Prehistoric pets is such a huge and professional operation. You should look them up on youtube.

Nice! I picked up a male at the Daytona show.He is a little flighty as well but very pretty. Love their blue tongues!

Thanks everyone. It's nice to finally have a snake that displays itself and is not constantly hidden.
Really?? The ones at a pet store here in Mesa are ALWAYS hiding... They're BEAUTIFUL, but always hiding.

That being said, I certainly hope yours is the display snake you want her to be!!

Maybe it was just because the enclosure is new to her, but she was out and visible all day. She was pretty active most of the day.

Glad to hear it. They certainly are truly beautiful snakes. I wish I could have one myself... but there are too many others "higher on the list". LOL.

As others have already said. WOW!! I can't get over what a beautiful girl she is. Is her care similar to corns as far as heat and feeding goes?
Please keep us updated on her progress, because I don't think I'm going to be able to get enough of her...lol

Wow, she looks like a neon sign with scales. So cool. Just out of curiosity, can she breed to corns?

They don't require too much additional heat. I've got the hottest point in her tank at about 83 degrees. Feeding isn't too much different if they're already accustomed to eating rodents. They start with much bigger food items then corns though.

The major differences are the need for humidity in the 80-90% range and a taller tank set up. They like to spend time in trees so their going to need branches, fake plants, vines, etc. Anything they can climb on and get off the floor of the enclosure.

I'll be sure to start a progression thread at some point.

Thanks! I really have no idea. I doubt it, but that's just my guess.
