New and as my name implies I NEED HELP!!

We have had a corn snake for just over 2 yrs. When we bought her from a pet store "she" was living with a "male" and we were told we bought the female. We were also told she was approx 3 yrs of age. My husbands cousin bought the "male", except a year later it laid eggs. Now I have been told that she can retain the sperm and lay the eggs at a later date, but I am figuring that my female is actually a male.

As of yesterday we inherited a second corn snake, one that we were told is a male, however has a VASTLY different tail vent location, so I am unsure, it COULD be a female.

I have no real interest in hatchlings, as I have them as pets only (In all honesty they are my sons snakes, I just care for them).

I had originally come looking for advice about cohabitating them since I called the petstore where they were both originally purhcased from and was told, by an associate who admited he wasn't the most informed about snakes, that I could put them together, however after reading a thread earlier, I don't think I will be doing that.

So far with the snake we have I have been removing her from her tank, and into a plastic tub for feedings. She eats fairly well, has the occasional early spring feeding jag where she refuses to eat for a few weeks but is usually back to eating normally within a month.

Is there anything I can be doing better, any advice about them?? I have read as much as I have been able to get my hands on in regards to them, but still some how feel miserable inadequate to care for them.

Thanks

Sounds like you have a good start on things. I would recommend Kathy Love's book - Corn Snakes, The Comprehensive Owner's Guide, avaiable on her web site - www.cornutopia.com and at many pet stores. It covers just about everything. Also, there is a great FAQ section here on the forum and just reading through the threads will be helpful.
It's a great group. Enjoy!
