new cage

well I decided the corns cage wasn't fancy enough to be in my living room, so I made this.

the back wall is made from chicken wire mached with paper, then pigmented cement was used to cover it. the wall is rock hard about about half an inch thick.

Hey, well done Amdek! That looks really lovely! I've had an idea though that might finish off the sides and back -I've seen similar vivs but with the outside painted so it hides all the less aesthetic stuff behind. If it's getting slotted into a bookcase or something then I guess it doesn't matter but otherwise, it looks great!

Question: Is it still pretty lightweight? I have a huge timber terrarium with a background treatment like that and it's surprisingly light.

thanks for the friendly comments everyone!

to answer your question, I used almost the entire 10 lb bag of cement, so the cage is no longer "light weight" hehe. the sides are sorta an eye sore, but the backside is up against the wall and the other sides will have house plants next to them so it should look alright, better than his old plastic thing at the least.

here are just some random pics of the corn snake in the cage

Hey, that is a really cool cage. I have a question though (I don't know much and am trying to learn). How would you clean something like that say... if your snake had mites? Do all the plants and stuff come out and then you just wash everything else?
thanx!

if the snake had mites that would be a nightmare!!! it would be very tough to bet rid of them. if your careful though it shouldn't really be an issue in the first place though. good luck the cage looks cool!
