Hi there! I just got my baby Ophelia from a friend of mine and she recommended I reference this site so I signed up. My little O is still tiny enough to fit in a small tupperware container, which I'm keeping her in until I complete a big move to NYC in exactly one week. Can anyone recommend any tips on moving/keeping a snake calm on a long drive? I plan on keeping her in my lap most of the drive (as I won't be driving) and does anyone have any recommendations for petshops in the NYC area?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Well I don't really have any advice but you can use the search function in the bar thing above it works great and I know I have read threads on taking your snake on car trips. Welcome to the forum btw.

Welcome and congrats on your new little friend!
I have yet to take my snake on a long drive, but I think the two main things are:

1) Don't feed right before you leave. Make sure they've digested their last meal, since travel could be stressful.

2) Temperature control. This time of year should be pretty easy. I think most people put their snake in a tied-off pillowcase, and then that into a plastic, crush-proof bin with air holes. I think coolers are used to help keep temps even. Hot water bottles or cold packs as needed.

I know there are at least a couple threads about this, so I bet you'll find more detailed advice in a search. :) How long is the drive?

Thank you! She's do for half a pinkie again on Thursday, and I'm leaving on Monday (26th) I'm taking a uhaul moving van, and I didn't want to put her anywhere in the back because it will be so packed. I have her in a medium sized plastic container right now, which I was just going to sit on my lap for most of the drive. It's a five hour drive, roughly.

Oh, that's not bad. If you'll have her on your lap it should be a nice temp for her and she won't get jostled too much. Should be a breeze.
