I got a new corn snake today, about 3 months old.
When I put it in it's viv. it almost completely avoids the warmer side.

I don't know if I have it to hot or what...
advice?

Well, the thermometer broke on the way home.
I had to put it in some random container because
my mom doesn't want mercury poisoning and
I'm taking it back tomorrow
To get a new one.

Gary said Valkyrie may just be a little jolted due to a new enviroment.

What kind of container is it in? It could be the new enviromentor even the temp. It might be a little of three.

Sounds like you dont have a thermostat either. You'll need one of those to make sure your UTH doesn't over heat, if you had one then you could set the temps with that.

You want a digital thermometer ideally, one with a probe. A mercury thermometer isn't (in my opinion) as good/or as easy to use as a digi one

On my moms next payday we're going to go get a thermastat and digital thermometer.
We're just using the mercury thermometer for the time being.

Hiding...

I was surprised at how much time my snakes spend away from the "hotspot" side of their tanks - since they are healthy and happy looking snakes I guess that they make themselves comfortable and thats it really. I wouldn't worry too much about where they chose to "sunbathe" so to speak :)
