New(er) Thai Bamboo ratsnake.

Tavia

Elemental Exotics
This girl is one of Serenity's sisters and would actually have been my second choice when I picked Serenity out. A member on here ended up with her but she wouldn't bump up to mice with hair and had started being a sporadic feeder after the attempt to move her up, so since the member knew I kept them, he gave her to me to see if I could straighten her out. I got her back in July and so far she has been a consistent eater, although she will not eat when she is anywhere at all in her shed cycle, unlike her sister who does not care about that. I generally don't feed any of my snakes while they are opaque but sometimes miss noticing that they are going to shed.
I figured that getting her consistent was more important than the right size mice at the moment, so I haven't attempted fuzzy mice with her yet but have been slowly upping the size of her pinkies and think I will try a fuzzy soon.

Although I liked the name that the other member had for her, just couldn't resist renaming her in the theme we have going for our Asian rats and a few of the other snakes. So we renamed her River, very appropriate for her temperament!

These pictures were taken soon after we got her.

She has these wonderful little yellow highlights along her black stripes. She's about a quarter the size of Serenity because of the feeding issues but has gained about 15 grams since July, although she is a pain to weigh, so I haven't done that in awhile.

Was having a little bit of a hard time getting the color saturation right, something that happens a lot trying to get pictures of this species, we've found.

I had her dad here for a while. He was so sweet at the show, and then a SPAZ here. But a good daddy- that's all that counts.

Is it strange that she reminds me of an old muscle car? The two racing stripes do it I guess. Very cool.

Happy to report that she just ate her first fuzzy with me! Also weighed her today and she is up to 52 grams!

I love the way her stripes fork at the top of her neck and form a little bridge, don't know if that's common with these or a unique feature, but super cool. I do get the little yellow blended highlights and this thing really is just a pretty snake. Really lovely Tavia. Grats' on the fuzzy feeding too.

A fair number of them have varying amounts of cross bars on their stripes. Some people prefer them and some only want the ones with perfect stripes. There are also a few out there with vanishing stripes but I personally don't like those as well.

My male, Atari, doesn't have any cross bars. This one's sister, Serenity, had three cross bars, which was why I chose her instead. I like the ones with lots of cross bars and it will make her easy to tell apart from Atari.
But, oddly enough Serenity is losing her cross bars bit by bit with every shed. Lots of reptiles get more melanistic as they age, it's weirder for them to lose it!

This was Serenity a few months after I got her, no older than six months although I forget now when this picture was taken.

And this was Serenity just a few months ago. You can see where the cross bars are fading out and they have gone a little more since this picture. Looks like River's might be going the same way.

Need to get some new pictures. She shed the other day and is looking really good! Her cross bar at the neck is definitely fading out like Serenity's though.
Weighed and fed her last night and she is up to 63 grams!

She is currently on a short feeding strike but did come in at 135 grams today, a quite decent progress!

Took some new pictures of River today. Pardon the ugly yellow gloves, for some reason she is much calmer if I handle her with gloves and not bare hands.

She is up to 169 grams now.

That is one truly impressive snake! I love the head pattern and how the lines go right through her eyes!
