Hello! Ive been lurking around for some time now - reading much of the forums. Thought this was a good time to stop in and say hi :wavey:

I purchased a corn snake this Christmas for one of my sons. Wouldn't you know not a full week went past before my husband went out and got one of his own...lol.

Although I don't have a ton of past exp with corns I have owned a few snakes in the past. (Boa & Garter) This forum was great on info, filling in the husbandry gaps I had prior to my purchase.

Here are some pics... Id love for everyone to tell me what they think my husbands corn may be when he grows up... please feel free to correct me on what they may be, as I can only go by what I was told on purchase.

#1 is my sons "MATOR" - Amel (Motley?) - I personally love the zigzag behind his head.

#2 is my husbands "TREAD" - Not sure what to call him, but either way he has a cool sort of morse code pattern, all dots and dashes. Hes half the size of tread, he just shed and is starting to show some brighter orange shades in his lighter areas now.

Looking forward to much more posting!

Welcome to the site!!!!!!!! There are a lot of great people here. Everybody is always willing to help.
Be sure to read the FAQ section in the forums. They answer a lot of questions. There is a search feature that answers many questions.

Welcome to the site, Beth!

Personally, I'd refer to Mator as a "Reverse Okeetee", which is a line-bred amelanistic.

And Tread looks to be a bloodred motley/stripe. If you had a "ventral" (belly) photo, that would confirm it.

jazz

Thank you both for the welcome :)

Jazz - I will try to post up a pic tomorrow, as all my kids (human and otherwise) have gone to sleep for the night. However as I recall Treads underside is a solid pinkish cream color. Mator on the other hand has what Id call a white checkerboard going on.

Thanks again!

FYI, a checkerless belly indicates presence of the motley gene....

...looking forward to the photos!

Again, thank you all for the kind words and warm welcome! Here are a few more pics including some ventral images.

I was thinking maybe a Normal motley/stripe. Am I missing something that suggests bloodred? I seem to remember seeing quite a few normal motleys and normal mot/stripes that tend to have the deep reddish color :shrugs:

Zach, FWIW, I thought the head in the original shots was kind of hatchling blood "greyish"....but you may be correct.

Beth, the ventral shots of Tread aren't really giving me any additional information....probably because they aren't really "ventral" shots, but more lateral.

Show me Tread's belly! ;)

jazz

whatever they are, they are some fine looking snakes. congrats to your son and your husband on their new pets. welcome to the forums and please post pics of yours when you get it. :grin01:

In the last photos 1 kinda shows the last few inches of underside tail area and number 3 although out of focus as well..... but here is another one I managed to get the other day....
