:cool:Hello everyone!

My name's Kat, I bought my first Corn Snake, Kalypso, yesterday. :] As sort of an early 21st birthday present to myself.

I have a question with my introduction.
The kid at the pet store was pretty busy and didn't seem to have time to help me, but did mention he fed her last on Wednesday.
Which would make tomorrow, Monday, her 5 day mark. But since I got her on a Saturday, when should I feed her?
I don't want to stress her more than I already have.
And, I do admit, until I stumbled across this forum, I wanted to play with my new shiny friend. I had her out and in my hands for no more than 5 minutes earlier today to take pics and such.
As soon as I read that I shouldn't be doing that, I put her back in, lol.

When should I feed her for the first time and when is it okay to start handling her? I know to leave her be for at least a day after she first eats, though.

Now, let's see if I can get a picture to work. I'm not entirely sure how to do it! Yup, I can't figure it out. Here's the tinypic link of the pics, though!

Welcome to the forum, you will love it here! Great people, great support, great info.

From the day you brought her home you should give her 5 - 7 days of peace and quiet, no handling, as hard as this is. No constant digging around in her house looking for her, etc. She needs time to de-stress from the move and from going to a new place that is not familiar.

Then when you do feed her do not make it a large meal, a conservative meal is often best so that they can eat it and digest it well as sometimes the first meal in a new place can also be stressful. Generally, there are about feeding around here, one is a rule that even a vet will tell you, the other is a sample feeding plan one of our members created that works quite well.

1. Feed a prey size that at it's fattest part is no thicker than 1.5 times the thickest part of your snake.

or

2. The Munson Plan (Sample Feeding Chart): Revised 06/08/08
-When they're on single pinks (2-3g), I feed every 5-6 days. (Snake = 4-15g)
-Double pinks (3g x 2) every 5-6 days. (Snake = 16-23g)
-Small fuzzies (5-7g) every 6-7 days. (Snake = 24-30g)
-Regular fuzzies (7-9g) every 6-7 days (Snake = 30-50g)
-Hoppers (9-12g) every 6-7 days (Snake = 51-90g)
-Weaned (14-20g) every 7 days (Snake = 91-170g)
-Adult (20-30g) every 7-x days (Snake = 170+) See below.

Note: Adult females are fed more frequently than adult males (especially following brumation). Adult females are fed every 7-12 days; adult males are fed every 11-14 days.

This is by no means scientific, and not all corns will cooperate 100% with the schedule. The weight ranges I gave for the prey and snakes are approximate.

Hope this helps out. Any other questions feel free to post them, in the area that they best suit, that way you will get responses quicker.

Lol, I keep peeking in her cave to see if she's in there. [Which she is. But still, lol.]
I'm having a very hard time keeping my hands to myself, she's just so darn pretty.
But, *breath* I'll manage. :]

Pish! :sidestep:
I can not be held responsible for my hometown sports teams! It's not my fault if we suck, hence why I don't follow them, :grin01: haha. ;]

Thank you for the info! :]
I read and re-read that FAQ link, though. And didn't see anything about when you fiiiirst bring your little one home.

Also, do you know what kind she is?

She is an Amel = Amelanism/Amelanistic/Albino (means with out black pigment). Possible Candy Cane but the pics are not the best no offense, if as she gets older she stays virtually all white with only red on her saddles(the spots on her back) she is likely a Candy Cane which is a specially bred Amel. If you stick to the "I don't have a snake" for the first 5 days you have her and then feed her a small meal, preferably in a small Tupperware with the lid on(with air holes) and a tea towel over top(not always needed) you should have no problems.

Then do not handle for at least 48 hrs after you feed her and once you do handle her take it slow, once or twice a day, 10-15 min at a time, so as not to stress her out. Remember given proper care she will live 10-20 yrs, you have lots of time to become buds!

Thank you! :) Everyone seems so friendly, based on the posts I've read, anyways.

I can't get my picture to show up, though! :crying:

Technology sometimes... :madeuce:

Welcome, I am from Michigan as well. Livonia area, how about you?

Glad to see you here and congratulations on your new snake.

Welcome here! So nice to see more Michigan people here. Both MalinoisK9 and I are from the Lansing area. Can't wait to see pictures of your new snake!

When I get past the week of "I don't have a snake, I don't have a snake *peeks in the coconut hiding spot* :noevil:, I do have a snake, but I can't touch her yet", as Asbit suggested, I'll be sure to take pictures! :]

Maligator, it's really neat to meet other people from MI as well. Especially other young hobbyists (sp?). :)
